He grew up in Washington Heights, which while in Manhattan was not a wealthy neighborhood. He went to Hunter Elementary School/High School, which is a well known public gifted and talented school. His parents were smart and educated, but he was not wealthy. And it likely was not his decision but rather the producers to raise the ticket prices....

Who said he was wealthy? It was likely not his call, but I'm sure he could've stood up at meetings with the GMs and producers and been like, "this is bull****, y'all." But: capitalism.
Sorry if this has been mentioned previously in the thread, but it's seven pages and I don't have the patience to read what looks like another argument about Hamilton ticket availability/cost.
I was just wondering how can I find out how much tickets are for certain seats/seating areas? I usually just look at random performance to get an idea of ticket cost, but with scalpers inflating prices I'm having trouble finding out how much a normal ticket costs if I'm able to buy it directly from ticketmaster. My dad has recently become infatuated with Hamilton and I'm looking into the possibility of trying to see it.

Funny how we don't have the patience to respond to your question.
Those prices with nearly the entire OBC gone? Seems pretty dumb. People are paying so much to these particular performers perform. When they all leave, Im sure the interest will wane. I guess we will wait and see.
Yes, you are probably right. I personally went myself to see those particular actors perform. Many people will not care because the show is so wonderful on its own.

$849 premium (almost the entire orchestra through Row Q - behind that TBD)
Front mezz $199
Rear mezz $179
"$849 wow!!!!!!! I am in S H O C K !!!! Whoa. I personally have no interest in buying tickets at that price a year in advance commitment for some TBD assembled cast. !!! That's alot of money for something unknown. I just assumed tix would be in the $200 range...with of course the rip off 'premium' seats, ok if they raise that from $549 to $849. But to have half of the sides of row Q at that price? That's crazy!!! Who's actually upset about the timing of the ticketsale? Who honestly is buying for some unknown cast next year cast at that price??? (if you've already seen it, that is...) Crazy, unless you haven't seen it. Arguably,, still crazy. But who can tell others what to do / how to spend their money.
PS I guess they are really smarting over the scalper prices and figure, people are paying this, or close to it , so it might as well go to them. (I still can't believe most tickets sell at those prices listed--I think they are removed from the site unsold sometimes, given to friends/family or used by person putting up for sale)

I did scan through it and didn't see what I was looking for. What I did see was arguing about the release time, availability, and prices. But it's funny you tried to speak for everyone when someone was kind enough to help answer my question.

I was wondering about that too, but I came to the conclusion that they couldn't offer the Platinum people a special pre-sale, and then lower the prices for everyone else.

That's true, and it sucks, because that means when the general sale starts, EVERYBODY is going to stampede right past the orchestra seats and fight over the mezzanine and upper mezzanine seats, because those are the only ones remotely affordable. At least if the orchestra seats were, say, $300, some people would go for those. But $849? Heck, it looks like not even the millionaires are springing for those seats. There's a lot of them still available. Tells you something.
And to make it worse a good portion of the mezz seems to have been made available and bought up in the presale. I cant remember if the back rows of the front mezz were available today or not, but the front rows certainly were as was a good portion of the rear mezz. So the Centurions get the cheap tickets at face value and leave the $849s for the public sale....
I'd imagine the premium rate might be back to the 550/600 range on Sunday night- I think they used this small group as a test for jumping the prices that much and now see that it isn't quite effective.
The 2 credit cards that were valid for this presale are not exactly cheap-The cheaper one is about $500 a year to get perks like this, and the other is more. Most people with these cards are wealthy business people, or people with company cards. To a Fortune 500 company, $850 a ticket for the best holiday gift ever for their clients is pennies to the rest of us.
Let's see what happens on Sunday, conveniently at 11:10, right when the Tony's end on the East Coast, when the Internet gets broken by Hamilton again.
A lot of consternation expressed in this thread. On the surface, it would appear entirely justified. $850 theatre tickets? What kind of madness is this? But think about it. If someone creates a monster that then turn around and bites its creator, does that person have the right to complain? In other words, with their relentless hysterics, the fanboys/girls here, there, and everywhere helped create and feed the grotesque megamedia machine pushing this item in our faces every second of every day, all of which has led to this unfortunate and inevitable outcome. Now they're reaping what they've helped sow, and complaining about it? Sorry, but let those who were no party to any of this be the ones to complain, because they're the ones with the right to.
It's no doubt a bitter irony that the fanboys/girls' ludicrous adulation resulted in allowing Black Card zillionaires to check off one more requisite item on their status symbol check list, right alongside invitations to the right parties and elite designer trappings. (Mmm, sound like the characters in a recently-shuttered musical?). But then, they're such aficionados of American history, right, not to mention rap music! Oh, well, thus do we derive one of the few laughs to be had in this whole sorry fiasco.
But are you disgusted like sarahb22? Because I'm disgusted!

I really cannot believe that they have the gall to consider that much of he orchestra "premium" and to charge $849 for those seats. But could they realistically lower the price after the presale? Is there precedent for that? (I know shows sometimes revert premium seats to regular close to show time) I would be pretty upset if I bought tickets at that price with what should be a perk of membership and then found the price dropped 5 days later.
Listen I understand capitalism but I can't believe how ironic it is that LMM penned an op-ed about robots ruining Broadway that was published on the same day his show put tickets on sale for almost a year from now, for $849.
You probably can't believe it because that's not actually ironic.
