Hamilton cast--how long with the originals?

I am new to the message boards and planning a trip to NY in December and next May. I hope I am posting in the right place. I have to see Hamilton after listening to the soundtrack ever since it was released. I am in awe of it! I'm finding resale tickets for December ranging from $600-$2500. Before I pay a fortune to see this, does anyone know if the original cast will be performing in December and how do we know when Lin Manuel Miranda and others will be leaving the show? Tickets for next May are pretty high, too, but there are still some on Ticketmaster so at least it's not at resale prices. And is there a better place to find resale seats?

I also got ahead of myself before I did more research, and I bought a single ticket for next May just in case I cannot find a seat for December, and now I find out that Munoz will be playing the lead for the May Saturday matinee that I purchased, and I also chose Row C and probably should have chosen Row F. Sigh . So I could potentially try to sell that ticket and buy another for a time when Lin Manuel will be the lead, but if he is going to leave the production by then, I probably don't need to do that.

If anyone can help, I would love to know if the cast in December and May will be the same amazing cast that I have been listening to for what seems like weeks now. Then I can decide whether to splurge on the outrageous resale prices for December seats and sell my May seat, if possible. Or just see it twice.

usually the original cast has a contract of one year, and I wouldn't be surprised to see much of this cast signing for an extended period (especially with Tony nominations and almost certainly wins occurring next summer). The one who probably won't stay beyond that, I would assume, is Jonathan Groff, who I'm sure has projects set up in LA for as soon as his contract is up.

Also RE: Muñoz, people on this board have said he is just as good as Miranda (and a better singer), so I doubt you'd have trouble enjoying his performance.

A whole year! Wow! So now I need to figure out whether to way overpay for a M side orchestra seat for December (around $600 with fees) or way overpay for a V side orchestra seat (about $375). I am pretty sure I have to see it with Lin Manuel Miranda once. If it's not hard to sell my ticket, I can buy another one for May...but then I have to wait for forever to see it. Are people seriously paying the outrageous resale prices I see on Ticketmaster?

Yes, people are paying. Depending on what seat # you're looking at in row M, $600 isn't too bad compared to other prices. Stubhub has lower fees but ticketmaster are 100% guaranteed since they are direct listed/transferred. If you do buy off CL, make seller do TM transfer only. If they hesitate, move on. There are so many people getting scammed with the "I have hard tix but I'll show you my receipt". There are some legit sellers on CL but you have to be vigilant.

My best guess is the cast will stay through New Years 2017. They are signed for a year so why not extend through holidays?

Because many of them will have job offers that stem from this and need to take advantage of them. Yes, most will likely be there thru June but I suspect there will be large turnover once their contracts are up.

Remember, by June, most of them will have already been with the show for more than 18 months.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

The seat I see is M 26 and the one next to it, M 28. They are sold as a pair. I would need to convince my friend to buy the other seat, so I am not sure it would work. I check multiple times a day for a seat .

That's too far over. If it was a low seat number, ok but you're heading towards the outside.

You can call Ticketmaster and tell them you want 1 ticket and they'll often split those pairs on the phone that you can't split online. No extra fees.

I think (but could be mistaken) that the OP was talking about resale tickets for these. I think those sales parameters are set by the seller so I don't think this is true in that case. (It is true for regular purchases and I've done that.)

Also I would think most original cast members should be there through the Tonys so you should be ok in May. I know Leslie Odom Jr's Broadway contract is year (he said so in an interview) so that would put him there through the summer. I know there has been commentary on other threads that this is likely true for everyone. I bought some tickets for May a few weeks ago and they were the "restricted view" row V seats that I really don't think will be bad knowing the staging of the show.

I think May would be a great time to see it because it's right after Tony nominations are announced.

Miranda very well may stay with the show longer since it's his creation. Didn't he stay with in the heights for quite awhile? But to me I'd try to see it with the original cast. While he is the creative genius behind the show, in terms of performances, others stand out more. But I can definitely understand wanting to see it with him. There is something special about seeing someone in a role they created not just as an actor but as a writer.

Munoz is extraordinary. No one sees a lesser show with him as Hamilton. Odom, for my money, is peerless. He has the best role (Miranda admits he has the best songs) and he is luminous, powerful, heartbreaking. But who doesn't believe that anyone in this company will be stellar? Fretting over who's playing these roles isn't useful, since eventually vacations will ensue, absences happen (it's a hard show, 8 times a week), and the show will go on. Get the best seats for the least amount of money and enjoy.

Check ebay too - there are a few reasonably priced single tickets ($400 or so) for Saturdays in April, May and June mostly in center Mezz. I will thinking of springing for one.

For the record, I believe Odom is as luminous and incredible as you say, Auggie, but his understudy is pretty gut-wrenchingly (sure, let's make up adverbs) fantastic as well. Just in case anyone goes to the show and sees a Burr understudy, the show will not suffer.

That said, Burr still needs a Tony.

You're referring to Harcourt, right? I believe (although I could be wrong) there are a few understudies listed for Burr but he's the only one I've heard of standing in so far.

I love him in his usual track and I'd love to see him when he's standing in for a bigger role.... But Odom's the only one I'd be truly disappointed if I walked in the theater and saw he was out no matter how many times I've seen the show. He's just so incredible. I'm sure that wouldn't mean I wouldn't enjoy seeing Harcourt's Butt, but man... Leslie Odom Jr is just so good.

Thanks for all of the advice, now I just want to see it even more! So it sounds like M 26 or 28 off to the side in December is not going to be worth $600? Maybe I should be happy to have a ticket for the Saturday matinee in May then, but honestly, I don't know if I can wait that long! I cannot get the soundtrack out of my head!

My seat for May is C109. I paid $352 + $17 in fees on Ticketmaster. Am I going to be straining my neck that close up? I am not sure what I was thinking (I was desperate to buy a seat before they were all gone, probably), but I am pretty sure I saw Les Mis in 1988 or 1989 and I was that close up and loved it, but it was most likely a different theater. Does anyone think I would have a chance of selling it for what I paid and then I could buy another seat farther back? I think if there was anything still available, it would cost me $477 + $17 in fees, at a minimum. Never thought I would even consider paying this much! But coming from California just once a year or so, I really want to have the best experience possible.

I saw If/Then last October at Richard Rodgers and was in M 12, but I don't remember much about the theater, loved the show! I will see it again when it comes to San Francisco next month.

Thanks for making me more excited to see this show! Sounds like the performances will be stellar no matter who is on stage. Regarding resale tickets, I will keep looking for December in case anything pops up (do prices go down or up as the dates get closer?), but will probably find many other shows to fill my time if I can't get a seat. Anyone recommend the box seats (though they may be sold out and I have to find someone in NY to go to the box office to check for me)?

Thanks for that information! That was definitely a long time ago. I was trying to get a sense of Row C in any theater. I liked it just fine then. I was in Row G for Beautiful

I sat in 2nd row orch, aisle seat. I'd already seen the show and personally wouldn't recommend being that close for first time but I liked it. Iirc, 109 would be 5 seats over and I'm not sure how many seats are in row C. You might want to check out "viewfrommyseat" to see if any pics are posted from that area. The only issues I faced with sitting so close were not being able to see the turntables at all, some obstruction when actors stand in front of you and the general not taking in the scope of the production, but being so close that you see the spit fly also has a cool factor. You might be able to resell but might be hard to sell quick since date is far away. You could also cross list on stubhub since fees are less, you could charge less to recoup.

Eta- is this a resale or direct tm ticket? If direct, I'm pretty sure you can upgrade to better seat

I don't think you need to see the turntables to experience the production. You're still seeing the people glide around the stage on them, which is more the point. And there is no seat safe from an actor blocking you, but if you're in the center orchestra, that isn't going to be a major issue (unlike a partial view seat in the front where an actor can block you from seeing almost everything).

Sounds like a fabulous seat. I sat D and closer every time I saw If/Then, and never wished I was much further back, although I've never been one to want to sit further back to take it all in, I rather get right up and see the actors locking horns, etc.

I sat in B and I thought it was great. Sure, you can't always take in all the action at once but there is nothing like seeing the tears stream down Leslie Odom Jr's face. I thought it was great. You won't have to strain your neck. (The woman next to me was actually in a neck brace and seemed fine.)
