"And now I wonder if, had Idina come out wearing a t-shirt and jeans, would the hysteria be lessened? There's not much to freak out over something as indistinct as a t-shirt and jeans.."
I'm sure the psycho Idina fans would have found some way to keep up the hysteria. All this nonsense is making me really sad, because I feel like I can never wear my red tracksuit (purchased long before Wicked was even a glimmer in Stephen Schwarz's eye) again.

Alli- It said I was not allowed to view a protected entry
Can you post what it said please??
"Screaming, crying, and "I'm being Elphaba at my bat mitzvah" (overheard at the SWIWS stage door)or even (no lie) "my aunt will pay if you COME to my bat mitzvah"
I just laughed out loud in the feeling of sadness.
I wonder what would have happened if Idina wore something else besides a red-track suit. If she were a pair of jeans and an Old Navy T-shirt- I wonder if that would have made the same kind of impact as the red- track suit.

Well at least maybe teenyboppers in jeans and Old Navy t-shirts would have been less distracting.

Posted: 2/28/06 at 5:42pmI still think she could have dressed nicely. There is never a reason for ANYONE to be dressed in a track suit unless they plan on running. She was taking a bow at a performance she wasn't even in, she should have dressed at least a little nicer. It's clear she has no taste. Being comfortable or not, people should dress appropriately for what they are doing. I wouldn't be caught dead in public looking like a slob, and that's just what she looked like. That said, I can't stand when people dress like other people, for any reason. There is no reason for girls of any age to dress in track suits and attend a play. It's rude, repulsive, creepy and obsessive.

this is what that girl had to say about her experience at the book signing:
anthony seemed bored with being there.
it wasnt the best experience, he was a bit of a diva.
i expected "mark cohen" and i got... a rude anthony.
"what did he do that was so dickish?" you may ask....
well, they gave us post-it notes to write our names on so he could ONLY sign our stuff and not talk to us. it was just like a huge line of people with books and post-its that were ushered along while prince anthony sat there and scribbled "hi *your name* anthonyrapp" it was way too impersonal and he didnt look anyone in the eye and i just got a weird rude vibe from him.

I like track suits. *runs from Fashion Police*
I'm pretty sure I've worn one to a show once or twice. I never even made the connection with Idina.

I've gotten post its with my name on it at every book signing i've ever been to.
And to address the track suit issue, I personally would rather wear a track suit then be stuffed into fancy clothes with a broken rib.

We had the sticky note things too. When did she write it? Maybe we were at the same place?
Does she realize he was not there to be "Mark Cohen?" He kindly came to sign books. He was friendly as poosible to everyone- it was the usher people that were rushing as along although understnadable. There was a long line and Anthony had a flight the same day (that I was there.)
Who does she think she is.
She should go sit herself at a table and go through all the stuff he went through and sign a million books and take pictures. He didn't have to do any of that.
uhhh....some people.

That post-it thing does sound a LITTLE un-Anthony, because I've so many reports about how personable he is...that being said, I'm sure the book signing was a madhouse. They had to do something to keep it moving.
If loving track suits is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

I suspect that the post-its are at least partially due to the venues; really, a whole pack of sometimes unruly fans taking up your store, being bored in a long line, only some of whom bought the book at your store? I might want to speed up the process too if I owned a small bookstore.
As to the track suits, I've given up on trying to understand crazy fandom. Pointing and laughing is better.

Posted: 2/28/06 at 6:02pmI don't get it either, downtown. Anthony was a sweetheart when i met him (at the Virgin Megastore signing- you want to talk about CHAOS.)

There's nothing wrong with crazy fandom if you keep it to yourself. It's when you bring it out into the open that you're begging to be mocked.

Does your worship consist of mooing at the altar? I just want a clear picture.

Yeah that is a little odd for idina freaks to do that. I respect Idina, I think she rocks but I would never wear a red track suit to show that... Poor Idina- some of her fans are nuts.

I don't think it's a matter of being nuts, I think it's a matter of knowing WHEN to be nuts.
For example: My friends and I made our own Rent t-shirts to see the movie. We're nutty fans.
Would we do this to see the actual show? Not on your life. I try to keep it semi-classy on Broadway. Although I still wear my Wicked thong, b/c hey, what they don't know can't hurt them.

I don't know about you but my tracksuits stay on the soccer field. Though I do find it highly amusing that I got the top of the tracksuit a couple of days before the whole incident. (Hey, Bloomies had a crazy sale and I think I paid like $20 for it...)
Honestly, the post its do sound more like a venue thing then Anthony. On the couple of occasions where I've met him, he has always been really personable and sweet. (I even asked him about Wax Lion at the Virgin signing, and he called Tracie and started asking her, too cute. <33) To be honest you can't really expect something that ideal for a signing. You know it's going to be mobbed, and often times full of enthusiastic fans.
What had to be the most amusing moment was when I got in a little argument with someone there who was complaining about Idina leaving the signing earlier than all the other cast members... Oy. Then some little old lady got all interested and wanted to wait for Idina at the stagedoor after SWIWS. *head thud* "Um...well she doesn't come out that often, especially when she's uh, tired and has to errrrm, do stuff before the show." In hopes that everyone and their mother wouldn't go flocking there with their huge ass RENT posters. (Okaaaay, I'm still bitter that I didn't get one.) But then Taye got bored without Idina, and it was just waaaay too funny. <33
Wait...Idina fans in red tracksuits...yea, that's the topic.

It is indeed tacky, but it could have been worse.
They could have been mooing.
