Posted: 2/27/06 at 8:06pmwhat i find even worse is there is this small group of little girls who walk around with homemade shirts that say "break a rib!" on the back of them and they showed up at swiws (as well as jennifer laura thompson's last performance in wicked back in may).

Ok, I don't have time to paw through this whole thread, but if it wasn't me that said that they saw girls wearing tracksuits at SWIWS, it may as well have been, because I was there the night they were.
As a proud and loud Idina fan myself (of the over 25 sort, of which there are many more than one would suspect - we're quiet for a reason) I was mortified not only for Idina, but for myself as an Idina fan.
All I have to do is mention that I love Idina online and people automatically peg me as a 12 year old frothing idiot whose 3 broadway shows (and ONLY three) are Wicked, Rent, and maybe Avenue Q if I've really branched out. I hate that. But can I blame them?
The young ladies in question were wearing red track suits. They were probably about... 14 years old and were accompanied by their mothers. The girls were BORED OUT OF THEIR MINDS during the show. They looked a bit perkier when Idina was onstage, but the show was clearly so far beyond them that it was a waste.
The tracksuits were accompanied by glittery tshirts that said something akin to "I Luv Idina". I was PRAYING she couldn't see them. And I don't think she noticed them until curtain call, when after nearly sleeping through the show, they leapt to their feet screaming hysterically and she had no choice but to look at them, as the rest of the audience was still taking in the last notes of the show.
I know it's petty to hate two girls 10 or 12 years my junior... but I hate them. And every time I think about it, it irks me.

Personally, I think that wearing shirts from another show (ie wearing a Wicked shirt to see SWIWS or wearing a Rent shirt to Aida back in the day) is a bit tacky, same as asking them to sign the CD or playbill from another show. To me it sortof says "I really only came to see you because I liked you in
Just my opinion.

yeah i heard about this from many people. I think this is the most pathetic, rude and insensitive thing to do to a woman who has been through enough. She has so many screamy crazy fans and she did this show to show a side of her that was not for the under 18 audience...It makes me sick to think people would do something like this...

So I shouldn't ask Kathleen to sign my Friends DVD and call her Helena Handbasket?
I'll make a note of that.

"If you REALLY wanna make her feel bad in the middle of a performance, go dressed up as Marlene."
Well excuse me Mr. Roninjoey, might I let you know that the followers of Idina would never do something that would possibly trigger emotional distress. Though on the other hand, who the heck are you, and why did you mention my beautiful name?
I was there the first Saturday Matinee during previews, and I would like to point out that surprisingly enough there were a few older fans of Ms. Menzel in Wicked garb. No red track suits...thank goodness.

I know the feeling. People hear I'm an Anthony Rapp fan and automatically assume its because of RENT. I didn't find out about RENT till later.
Am I the only one who dresses in dressy casual when I go to theatre?

I too, have heard about this "incident" at SWIWS. That's just so insensitive and tacky for these teenagers to do this sort of thing. I'm sure most of them were probably there just to see Idina and couldn't care less about the rest of the show or the cast(No offense to any Idina fans who did enjoy whole show). I never saw SWIWS but from what I understand, it's an ensemble show, not a star vehicle.
I feel so sorry for her. It must be tough having all those obsessive fans who complain if you don't leave through the stage door, or mob you when you leave the theatre. I'm sure she probably appreciates the support, but there's a line between supporting someone and outright stalking and obsessing over them.

I was there several times and saw, more than once, young girls in red track suits with "I <3 Idina" shirts.
It was ridiculous.

"Am I the only one who dresses in dressy casual when I go to theatre?"
No- I always do. Sometimes I even wear a skirt. I would never, ever go to the theatre in jeans and a t-shirt. However, it is becomming more 'the style,' although I dont really agree with it.
Broadway isn't an everyday thing (at least for me it isn't) and I like to get semi-dressed up for it. I'm not going to wear a formal cocktail dress and be uncomfortable but I think it's best to go with some kind of nice casual look.
To each their own...
*whoops*- sorry for the threadjack.

I don't like wearing ANY kind of show shirts to a show, it isn't dressy enough... let alone a tracksuit.
I understand the "I won lottery/unprepared for theater" look - I guess because I come from work I've usually left my "I Luv Idina" shirts at home.

Same for me, I usually wear black dress pants, on occasion a nice colored tshirt, and a nice jacket. Nothing too fancy but nice enough. Nothing I wouldn't wear on a normal basis but not jeans.
Although the lottery is another story. And I would be more likely to wear a show shirt to say, RENT, but still with the nice pants... but thats just me.

Posted: 2/27/06 at 10:09pmGiven their age, I'm going with they didn't know any better. And truthfully, their mothers probably just saw it as cute. I'm not supporting it at all because I hate when people wear themed outfits like this to concerts or shows or whatever; it's just strange- like when I went to a Kelly Clarkson concert and someone wore her "Behind These Hazel Eyes" getup. Running eyeliner and tattered dress and all. I felt threatened.

Continuing with the threadjack...
I don't really care what people wear to the theater unless it causes some sort of major distraction for me. My eyes are on the actors during the performance, whom I'm with during intermission or in my playbill if no one is there. What irks me is common ettiquette, please leave on your f-ing shoes and don't prop them up against the orchestra pit when you win the Wicked lottery or any lottery for the matter, just please, DON'T.
I'm a bit of bum in some aspect, as I'm always in denim. It works in my book, a nice top and some ass flattering jeans. But I do feel more inclined to dress up if I'm not going to a matinee or if I'm going with my parents.

wow...really?
If I ever see those shirts I will be very inclined to pick up the nearest blunt object and do so...
cause...hey...they asked for it.
