I know for me sometimes, as I see shows while on vacation, it is difficult to bring multiple outfits for everyday and also a pain to be out being a tourist in NY and then have to run back and change, especially with matinees and their earlier timing. I always dress fairly nice; even if I wear jeans I try to wear a nice top, and if I have the opportunity and it works out, I love to dress up for me, it's just fun and part of the experience!
EDIT: threadjack : Jerseygirl I LOVE LOVE LOVE your new avatar!

Well I was a cool gal at SWIWS! I wore a red track suit, painted my face green, wore a black withcy hat, and wore a Bare T-shirt! Aaron Lohr and Idina were fawning all over me!
yup, there were girls who wore homemade 'I LOVE IDINA' shirts with red track pants one of the performances that I went to.
i tried to take undercover pictures too, i think i might still have a blurry one too. i'll try to find it!
here it is! it's blurry, but you can see the track pants, and the t-shirts said 'I <3 IDINA' with sparkly hearts, and you can see the girl's friend standing infront of her, kind of in the pants.
And people wonder why she is standoffish and doesn't like to sign autographs.
Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be enbered with your old nonsense. ~ Emerson
That is just sad. But I see you met Marc! My sister and I are actually indirectly related to him (our aunt by marriage is his aunt by blood) but have not met him. Our aunt says he is going to be in something new soon and that if we get tickets she'll call him and see if he will keep an eye out for us. We'll see!
"I wrote a book: "How to Be Popular". Now I've put together a top ten list of how to help you:
-Elphie, everyday... shower. I mean, who knows? Maybe some of that green is gonna come off!
-Deodorant Elphie. No body likes a stinky witch!
-I think we've covered the hair, we'll get to that.
-Clean underclothes. That's all I'm gonna say.
-Look at your posture. That's no way to be popular!
-Bed made, room straightened. We've done that.
-Colors blended. Oookay.
-But the most important thing to have, to make yourself popular, is to keep your beautiful smile."
~Kristin Chenoweth in her last performance of the song "Popular"
Alli- Thanks. I've been sufficiently disgusted by that picture.
To do such a thing is tacky and wrong. I feel no sympathy for the fangirls who think Idina's a b**ch to them (but they still love her!) because she's not always chatty and perky, or G-d forbid, she doesn't sign autographs. if I were her, I wouldn't want to deal with these people either.

It made me feel better because I actually whipped out my friend Ali's cell phone and took pictures of them IN the theater before the show started but...
1. It was a little dark
2. It showed their faces and 10 bucks they are either on here or on the Idina board, and as tempted as I was to post them, I hope they are reading and just... taking in their flames.
I felt like a psycho for taking the pictures but... I seriously didn't think ANYBODY would believe me. Looks like other people saw them that day... or god forbid... there was more than one shift of them.
Now what would you say if today I started over?

Fans are fans and she's pretty appreciative and nice to hers from what I've seen - but that KIND of fan expects... a LOT and tends to freak when they don't get it.
She signed autographs diligently at the SWIWS stage door, and even posed for pictures when she had time. She was friendly, if a bit quiet.
STILL, people had the nerve to complain publicly on message boards on the occasion that she didn't come out (ONCE because Daphne Rubin Vega was there, ONCE because she went straight to Pasquale's gig at Joe's Pub) - or, they had the gall to wait outside the theater for her even when the Public staff had told them to leave the lobby, she wasn't going to sign that day.
I just want to know what people think she owes them? And I also want to know if people think she'll suddenly invite them to coffee or become their BFF if they cry over her while wearing a red tracksuit. Sure, she'll notice it. But do you think she's IMPRESSED?
Sorry for the rant, but I'm a huge Idina fan who enjoys Idina because I can go to her shows - I had a SWIWS addiction (not just due to Idina, I might add... Marc... Mary) and I had somebody ask me if I stage doored for it whenever I went. Um... no. Why? So I could get another signature from her every time I saw the show?

All I can say to this is "AWWWW HELL NAAWWH!" Maybe I was a different 14-year-old, but I would have never done something like that at that age. It just screams "INSENSITIVE" so loudly that even pre-pubescent girls should know to back the hell off.
I don't get the red track suit thing. Like, I understand that it was a big deal that she couldn't make her last show and made an appearance at the end. And she certainly looked cute in the track suit when she came out, but why were all her fans like "OMG RED TRACK SUIT LOL" afterward? Have they never seen a red track suit before?
There was no such thing as a red track suit before Idina. She whipped it up from the clouds and rainbows and the breath of dryads and behold - there was RED TRACK SUIT. Such is the power of Idina.
speaking of bashing of an actor because they weren't overly happy and talkative, there's a recent post over at the Rent LJ community of a girl who unjustly called Anthony Rapp a dick at his book signing yesterday, then she disabled comments to her post.
Well clearly he didn't want to be BFF with her... so she's one angry little girl!
*rolls eyes*
It's distressing then number of show reviews that are 2 sentences about the show, 3 paragraphs about the stage door. And how fast someone can become somebody's "favorite actress/actor" if they just kiss a little stage door ass with their fans. Not to say that anybody who's overly nice to their fans is WRONG, but it certainly creeps me out when people give that as a reason. I won't mention names, but I had a run in with a girl who told me that Shoshana was her favorite Elphaba once - I asked her why - the girl hadn't SEEN her, but Shoshana was emailing her.
Though it makes me all the more proud of people who have huge legions of fans and yet... they don't do a lot of stage door interaction. You go for it. Do what ya like.
The entitlement thing is really grossing me out.
I DID do stage doors when I was 14 (and even younger) - my mother loves a good signed poster as much as the next woman, but maybe because I learned with her, at normal stage doors for normal shows that I have a calmer attitude about the whole thing. Respecting the actor's space, a polite "good show" or "you were great" and a FREAKING "THANK YOU" after they sign something is all that is required for a nice stage door experience. Screaming, crying, and "I'm being Elphaba at my bat mitzvah" (overheard at the SWIWS stage door)or even (no lie) "my aunt will pay if you COME to my bat mitzvah" (how uncomfortable!) do not enhance the experience.

The very fact that the fangirls were babbling about Wicked at SWIWS pisses me off. If you wanna talk to the actors from Wicked, see Wicked. Don't go to someone's performance and then when it's time to congratulate them on a job well done you just talk about their past work. It's really classless.
When I went to see DRS there were so many little Wicked fan girls there going "Fiyero!" when Norbert came out. Because I'm sure that's the work he's MOST proud of. Sigh.

Ugh, that is tacky. I've mentioned previous shows to actors before, but all in the context of praise for the current show. Aka, telling Alex Gemignani that between Assassins and Sweeney Todd, he plays creepy characters to an amazing degree.
And now I wonder if, had Idina come out wearing a t-shirt and jeans, would the hysteria be lessened? There's not much to freak out over something as indistinct as a t-shirt and jeans...
