Ritchie will definitely be petitioned for Leading, I don't see why not. He has the largest male role in the show, and which is a major part of the plot, comic sense, etc.
He will not be petitioned for leading. Just because he has the largest male role in the show doesn't make him a lead. That's like saying that Fiyero has the largest male role in Wicked and is thus a lead. Not at all. The two leads are clearly Glinda and Elphaba. In Wonderland, the lead is Alice. He is a featured player in multiple roles. That's all.
Joel Grey, unless the producers forget like CHICAGO did, will be petitioned for Featured Actor.

I'm very curious who everyone thinks will get the nominations for best leading actor. It'd be a shame if Tveit got snubbed again.
Best Actor in a Musical:
Rannells
Gad
Radcliffe
Sheldon
and BUTZ
No matter what happens, a terrible performance is going to be nominated for lead actress (imo.). I like how BBAJ might actually have a chance.
Bloody Bloody doesn't have an excellent chance, really. Its best bet was and still is a nomination for Benjamin Walker. Given the cold reception of McNally's book for Catch Me, it could even sneak in there.
However, I have a feeling that the production is all but forgotten by a lot of the community.
BEST NEW MUSICAL
Book of Mormon
Priscilla
Sister Act
The Scottsboro Boys(if not, then Catch Me If You Can).
VERGE doesn't stand a chance in the Best Musical category.
Personally, I found it far more engaging and substantial than Priscilla or Sister Act, which may be the more obvious choices. I would hope it at least pulls in nominations for Yazbeck and Benanti.
The Scottsboro Boys will NOT be nominated for Best Musical.
The Tonys are marketing. There's no point in marketing a show that is no longer running.
Which is really a shame. "The Scottsboro Boys", were it still open, would DEFINITELY be giving "Book of Mormon" a run for it's money, but it seems like we're looking at a "Producers" year here, folks. The new comedy musical will sweep the awards, and the song-and-dance revival snatches leading actress and choreography (the latter if it's lucky)
Which do you all think will take the Best Revival award? What about other awards the two shows COULD win...??

Correct me if I'm wrong here (and I might be), but, though Scottsboro did get positive reviews, it didn't get all raves. I know most people on here loved it, but perhaps the Tony nominating committee won't even want to remember it. Usually with these long-forgotten show snubs, it's especially egregious when the show had an amazing reception and was still forgotten, but Scottsboro was not unanimously praised, to my memory. I seem to remember Bloody Bloody garnering better reviews in general (though that's certainly not to say that Bloody Bloody will get a nomination instead of Scottsboro...or at all).
My picks would be: Mormon, Sister Act, Priscilla and Catch Me, though I personally think Scottsboro should get in somewhere...
Bloody Bloody and Scottsboro were about equal, review-wise, with maybe Scottsboro a tiny bit ahead. Scottsboro seemed better received in the community, though. A lot of people didn't like BBAJ (myself not included in that, I love it and wish it would win all the awards).
Well, I'm a Tony voter, and I haven't forgotten most of the shows people are writing off...so I'm willing to bet a lot of other voters haven't either.
It's the nominators, though, who will be doing the work at the moment. The voters weigh in later. And they certainly aren't all producers, and some definitely vote for quality and artistry.
I believe Scottsboro Boys will be nominated in a number of categories, and Benjamin Walker has a very good shot at a nomination. I do think Benanti is probably the only one who might score one from Women on the Verge, but it's not a year where there's a clear frontrunner in that category (of course, there are still shows yet to be reviewed).
We shall see.
I think Desmond Green could sneak in as a nominee as Featured Actor. He was fun and got quite the ovation when I saw it yesterdy.

I think only 3 musicals are actually of the quality to get nominated.... if only two of them weren't already forgotten:
BLoody Bloody Andrew Jackson
Book of Mormon
Scottsboro Boys
Funny how they're all originals. The fourth slot could go to whichever interchangeable Movie turned musical you happen to not hate as much as the others...
Sister Act, Catch Me if You can, Priscilla.... or my favorite of the pack.... Women on The Verge... :/ crazy huh?
We more than likely will end up with 3 of the so-so movie/musicals and then Book of Mormon...
BOOK OF MORMON
SISTER ACT
CATCH ME IF YOU CAN
PRISCILLA
I have only seen 3 of the possible nominees for leading actress and I don't think Miller's performance is Tony worthy. Even in a not so great musical, I thought Murphy was better. Just my opinion.
The Scottsboro Boys will NOT be nominated for Best Musical.
The Tonys are marketing. There's no point in marketing a show that is no longer running.
So I guess that's why they decided to nominate Ragtime and Finian's Rainbow last year...
It would be kind of weird for Ritchie to be nominated for anything; he's bland and dull in a simply awful show.
If RAIN gets nominated for anything, it's a sad day (since it's more of a concert).
PRISCILLA will defintiely win Costume Design at minimum and I'm hoping Sheldon can snag Best Actor in a Musical (or Benjamin Walker).
Chances are it really won't matter who else is put up in the Best Musical category, since everyone blew their wad for BOOK OF MORMON and all else seems to pale in comparison. (I would hope BBAJ and PRISCILLA would snake in for at least a nomination).

Because Norbert's name is featured on the Marquis he will be in the Best Actor category.
Because Norbert's name is featured on the Marquis he will be in the Best Actor category.
That's not exactly true. The producers can petition him to featured if they believe he has a better chance there.
If either Norbert or Sheldon get bumped to featured, either one would probably win easily.
Does anybody know when they plan to announce the final ruling on the categories in which certain actors will be considered? I would assume sometime next week since the nominees are announced on May 3rd.
