It says Hilty is in talks (we all know she's going to be apart of it). What role are they negotiating for her to play? Stepsister?
No, no! Chris Pine is Rapunzel's prince

She played one of Cinderella's Stepsisters, Lucinda, in the reading of the screenplay. However, one of the users on here, somethingwicked, said that according to a close source Hilty will not be doing this film. The reason may have to do with the fact that she is going to have a lead role on Sean Hayes' TV show.

The Wrap.com article says Jake dropped out as Rapunzel's Prince. That's now the second source (the Hollywood Reporter being the other one) that had them as Jake for Rapunzel's Prince and Chris Pine for Cinderella's Prince.
Most other sources have it switched. But since they are also the first to list Mackenzie Mauzy as in negotiations for Rapunzel, I'm leaning toward them for "which prince is which."
We shall see! (I haven no inside info of my own.)
Forgot about her TV part.
No wonder they want Mackenzie Mauzey as Rapunzel, she looks VERY similar to the Tangled Rapunzel. I mean she sounds good and all but... no Laura Osnes?
Jake Gyllenhal was Cinderella's prince. I remember clearly because when it was first announced, I thought about how he had brown hair similar to Cinderella's and how he was the perfect choice (at least look wise). On IMDB, he's even listed as Cinderella's prince

Mackenzie Mauzy was an understudy for the second half of the Broadway run of next to normal. She became the understudy when Megan Fahy replaced Jennifer Damiano as Natalie.
I *think* that was her Broadway debut.
If it wasn't for filming Nashville, Clare Bowen would have been a great Rapunzel
Mackenzie sounds passable
Never saw him as a prince anyway.

Actually Mackenzie's B'way debut was in 'A Tale of Two Cities'. She was on the soap opera 'The Bold & The Beautiful' for a long time.
I saw Mackenzie Mauzy in N2N and she was INCREDIBLE. I felt so lucky sitting in her audience and I would be absolutely thrilled if she had any part at all in this film.

The lovely and classy Bernadette Peters had this to say about the casting for the movie:
"I think so far from what I've heard about the casting, I think it's really, really being cast well, with people that can really sing."

Billy Magnussen Ventures ‘Into The Woods’ To Replace Jake Gyllenhaal

Inspired casting, so much more interesting than Gyllenhaal. Love how Marshall is not solely relying on star casting for this film.
best12bars, as I said earlier in the thread, there was always more than just that one initial source claiming Gyllenhaal was Rapunzel's Prince.
Billy Magnussen is fantastic casting.
Billy Magnussen is an inspiring choice indeed.
Now, if only they can get Angela Lansbury to play Granny my life will be complete. I promise to see the film 12 in a theater and take all my friends with me.
Magnussen should swap roles with the lifeless Chris Pine, though really without double casting the Wolf and Cinderella's Prince, Cinderella's Prince has a lot less to do than the role calls for on stage.
somethingwicked, you must have missed the last few pages of posts.
As far as Magnussen ... Meh.
I think they're both kinda lifeless and interchangeable. Nice eye candy, though. Maybe that's what works best for these princely roles.

The stepsisters: Tammy Blanchard and Lucy Punch

I'm assuming they purposely went with older Stepsisters to contrast with Kendrick.
Lucy Punch will be great in this small role. Really enjoyed her on Ben & Kate. Plus she already played a wicked stepsister in Ella Enchanted.
Lucy Punch is amazing. Hopefully one day she'll get a role that will turn her into the star she needs to become. SO excited to see her.

I loved Blanchard's performances in 'Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows' and 'Rabbit Hole'. I'm excited that she is likely to join the film.
Great news about Blanchard and Punch.
So what role is Megan Hilty "in talks" to play?
The Giant's Wife???
Cinderella's Mother's Tree/Ghost???
