I personally feel that Allison Janney would be lovely as the wife. However, I like an older baker with a younger wife for some reason. Like that's contributes to the urgency of their starting a family. Don't know how to go about casting that one.
If you don't mind taking it as it turns out, it's a fine, fine LIFE!
Someone on Tumblr posted this as their dream cast:
The Witch - Donna Murphy The Baker - Brian d’Arcy James The Baker’s Wife - Sierra Boggess Cinderella - Anna Kendrick Little Red Riding Hood - Carly Rose Sonenclar Jack - Andrew Keenan-Bolger Rapunzel - Laura Osnes Cinderella’s Prince - Aaron Tveit Rapunzel’s Prince - Cheyenne Jackson Lucinda - Megan Hilty Florida - Annaleigh Ashford Wolf - Hugh Jackman Narrator - Neil Patrick Harris Stepmother - Bernadette Peters Mysterious Man - Chip Zien Cinderella’s Mother - Sherie Rene Scott Jack’s Mother - Allison Janney The Giant - Victoria Clark Steward - Nathan Lane Cinderella’s Father - Norbert Leo Butz
I don't know if she'd play the same role twice, but it would be fun to see Bernadette as the Stepmother. How about Cinderella's Father and Stepmother are Chip Zien and Joanna Gleason?

Well, I'm sold. One of the top comments says "they should play Little Red and the Baker's Wife in the upcoming Into the Woods movie." :P
I seriously hope they give the original cast cameos. Bernadette as the stepmother would be adorable, and Chip Zien could play the father while Joanna Gleason plays Cinderella's mother.
I've been wondering about this bankable A-lister that's supposedly being considered. Cameron Diaz, who had a huge hit with BAD TEACHER, apparently came really close to getting Roxie. She's funny and she's the kind of actress Marshall loves, I don't know that she'd be right for the Baker's Wife at all or if she can sing, but I could totally see Marshall going for her.

Acting-wise, she'd be a little too goofy for my taste, but vocally she CAN'T. Her singing in "My Best Friend's Wedding" and "Sweetest Thing" are 100% her. She can joke her way around it, but couldn't pull off an actual musical.
I keep hoping the A-lister is Sandra Bullock or Melissa McCarthy.
Besty, I was thinking that too. I haven't liked her in anything for many years (including WALK THE LINE), so I'm kinda dreading it, but I'd rather her than Sandra Bullock (sorry, Jordan!).

^ That would actually be a little unusual best12bars that two ex-lovers in real life would be playing the Baker and his wife. I know that Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz did 'Bad Teacher' together after they broke-up, but I cannot remember if Reese and Jake ended their relationship on amicable or bad terms.
