I will likely be returning to NYC for a short work trip next month. Depending on what part of the month I return, I am pretty sure what new shows I wanna see. Still, I might add a couple days which would allow for me to either revisit shows I’ve seen before, other new shows, or older shows I haven’t seen before.
One show Im considering seeing again is Moulin Rouge! I was getting excited about seeing it perhaps at a reduced price during non-touristy season but still with the original cast. But then I recalled that Burstein is out of the show (for surgery?). Anyone know if/when he's returning. I see he's off the cast list on the website. Has anyone seen Austin Durant in the role? If so, how is he?
I loved many things about Moulin Rouge! when I saw it, but Burstein’s was my favorite performance.
I apologize if there is already a thread devoted to this. I searched and couldn't find it.
I love Danny Burstein - he’s one of my top 5 broadway actors. I saw Moulin Rouge without him (knowing he would be out) in January 3. While I could 100% picture Danny in that role perfectly, I thought Austin was fantastic!
He was at the matinee of "The Thin Place" at Playwrights Horizons last Saturday afternoon, and told people in the lobby he's returning at this Saturday matinee ("I go back in a week from today." That's from the horse's mouth. .
"I'm a comedian, but in my spare time, things bother me." Garry Shandling
According to a Facebook screenshot of the playbill insert from this afternoon, he was still out for the matinee today. Heading to see it tonight with fingers crossed! Though I hear the replacement is just as good!
Never seen Danny and I’m not really familiar with his work, but I did see Austin and thought he was pretty great. Definitely recommend seeing the show though either way.

He posted earlier on Saturday about a play at Primary Stages, but nothing about Moulin Rouge! But he doesn’t seem to post about Moulin Rouge! much so not sure one can surmise much from that.
He’s still not listed on the show’s website so I guess he’s still out. My friend is seeing it tonight (Tuesday) for the first time. No offense to the understudy, but I wish he could see Danny.

I am seeing it tonight, Tuesday, also. No Karen or Danny.

Agreed, Olivo is great but her understudy is just as great (I even liked her a little better personally). Danny on the other hand imo is irreplaceable and while I’m sure Austin is great I just can’t see coming close to matching Danny’s brilliance in that role

Well we know Olivo does not do Tuesdays. It tells you when ordering tickets.
I really enjoyed Amber Ardolino. At times I found myself picturing Olivo in some scenes and thought I just couldn't picture her in them. That's just me. You don't want to miss Rojas or Ngaujah either. They were good. The show as a whole didn't thrill me though. My thoughts are in the (pro) review thread.
