Marsden's a weird case, because he would mean next to nothing at the box office but would demand to be compensated like a semi-star. And I doubt he'd want to be yet another Billy Flynn; I'm sure Barry & Fran have offered it to him every other year for the past 15 years.

I don’t think he’d mean “next to nothing” at box offices. He’s not a massive star, but he’s been around for a long time and has notoriety from Westworld, The Notebook, Enchanted, Sonic, 27 Dresses, Dead do Me, etc.

It's all a matter of knowing vs. caring. Billy Crystal, Allison Janney, George Takei, and Laurie Metcalf have also been in a ton of popular movies & TV shows, yet their Bway shows flopped. In terms of actual full-priced-ticket-selling name value, he means a little more more than Craig Bierko but less than Zachary Levi or Josh Radnor. Maybe he even sells half-decently for 6 weeks but that's the extent of his fandom. He's a "that guy" to large swaths of people. But come to Broadway and prove me wrong, James!

He would have great as either Prince in ITW. He would have been great in BoM too - about 10 years ago. Could maybe pull off the Duke in MR or Oren in Little Shop off broadway.

He'd be good but that would be kind of lazy casting since he basically did that already in ENCHANTED.

I wish his name meant more. He's great in ENCHANTED (and wasted in its sequel). If only talent mattered but not sales, he could pull off KISS ME KATE or ON THE 20TH CENTURY.

He's invited to audition just like everyone else. He's great on tv/film when he can be edited and his voiced smoothed in a studio but as far as singing and acting live 8 shows a week that is a different story.

He was great as Corny Collins in Hairspray the movie musical and really fun in Enchanted. I think he's got a knack for roles that ask for a funny blend of smarm + charm, so Billy Flynn does make some sense. Could he take over Harold Hill from Hugh Jackman?

Cabaret?

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I’d love to see Marsden onstage. He’s not a name that will sell out houses, but I think he knows that and would be perfectly fine doing a show where he’s not the star attraction.

I realize this doesn’t fit that description, but I think he could be a great Stone in City of Angels.

Very much so. He's 49. Similar reaction to the suggestions of AGYG, Cabaret, and She Loves Me, which are all roles for guys in their 30s-very early 40s.

They're Playing Our Song, if anyone wants to revive it, might be a good fit for him.

The Full Monty would probably get the audiences in. The nude scene is brief, he wouldn't embarrass himself and the press around it would bring crowds.

Guys and Dolls is like the most obvious choice apart from the ones mentioned already.

And this is mostly because I REALLY want a revival and Marsden might just be a name enough to make it happen - A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum is long overdue at this point.
