Also, while some orchestrations in the show were so-so, but these concept album orchestrations are horrible. If they wanted to do some remixes for a revival cast recording, I wouldn't mind it, but couldn't they wait?

Just finished downloading the new CD and listening thru... Never posted on here before but had to jump in cuz I am blown away! The productions are SO HOT!!!!! Love how the arrangements are totally edgy and modern sounding... And beautiful, sexy too. They did this as a real record, with real artists. Really impressed!!!

I can't believe all this negativity, which prompted me to register. There wasn't a bigger fan of this original show or a bigger skeptic and I just LOVE the album. LOVE it!

Everyone is so hung up on what the play USED to be like and who WAS starring and what the music WAS BEFORE... get over it. Why can't you just be glad it's been revived and it's out there again and you can go see it? I didn't think I'd ever get to see it again, and now here it is on tour! After hearing the album, I'm going to see it for sure.

If you don't like the music or the orchestration and if you don't like Constantine Maroulis or Deborah Cox and if you can't wrap your mind around CHANGE, then don't go see this or buy the album. Go see West Side Story or Mary Poppins, where you can hear people sing your typical Broadway and everyone sounds alike.

I can't imagine working so hard to put on a play and then have all this negative crap out there to read. If you can do better, show me whatcha got.

I'm a huge fan of the Broadway incarnation, minus "Good 'N' Evil," and I'm all for change when it's necessary or even dramatically feasible within a new concept. This tour, however, just seems like change for the hell of it with no real thought put into why the changes are being made or how the change helps the show dramatically.

The book is the biggest problem, as always, and I'm left scratching my head as to why the decision was made to go back to the old tour book instead of using the far superior Tony nominated Broadway book.

I found the new orchestrations in particular to be incredibly drab, sloooow as snails fu@k!ng, and the singers incredibly overindulgent. The album is even more bizarre with what sounds like even slower tempos and even stranger orchestrations.

I admit that change is difficult for me when it comes to Jekyll & Hyde, and maybe one day I will be more accepting of a new interpretation, but this is definitely not it. You can sign up today and praise the show and the new album all you want, but the desperation is made even more apparent.

I saw it Wednesday night. I've never seen the show before, but I have listened to the music. I won't give a long review right now but I though the show was just meh. Having seen Constantine in Rock of Ages and Toxic Avenger, I didn't think he did as well with this material. He was awkward and shaky for most of it. His acting was nowhere and he chose very strange notes.

Debrah Cox should be recast. It was almost funny to see her sing with Teal Wicks (who could sing laps around her). She felt very stiff and her voice felt very thin (like I said, especially next to Teal Wicks, who had to hold back not to over shadow Debrah).

The design of the show was nice- the use of the projects were neat and appropriate. The costumes and ensemble were great. It's just a shame that the two leading people were the worst thing about the show. I'll see it again when it is at the Pantages- maybe it'll improve by then...or maybe I'll give away my tickets...

The funny thing about the orchestrations is that Kim Scharnberg (who is a great orchestrator, don't get me wrong) did the original tour in '95, the Broadway production, and the subsequent national tours. Not sure who did the orchestrations for the album, haven't listened yet.

@emo_geek - Have you NO EARS?!!! You've got to be kidding about Deborah and Constantine!! She's got tone, texture, style, power and unique character to her voice! That's what makes a real artist! And Constantine is killer. You want to see real artists up there singing these roles cuz that's what they were written for! Plus, the new orchestrations are COOL! MODERN! EDGY! 2012! It's awesome, people!!

I thought Cox gave a good performance - but she has the biggest hurdle to face of anyone in the cast: Linda Eder's shadow and fan's (and those who have seen it before) engrained image of her voice.

I think Constantine needs to grow a bit more into the role, but its a complex role I'm not surprised and not worried.

I really enjoyed the new album. Desperation? I just liked it. It's entertainment, and some of you are way too serious. I agree Cox has the biggest hurdle, following Eder, but she does a great job. It's not fair to say she can't sing the role. Can she sing it like Linda Eder? No, because she is doing her own interpretation. If they had wanted Eder, they'd have hired her. And this is SUPPOSED to be different. If they were doing imitations, they'd get pounded for that as well. Lighten up. Some of you sound downright mean. If you don't like it, don't go to see the show and don't buy the album and let the rest of us enjoy it in peace. I don't think I want to read anymore of this, because you are taking the enjoyment out of it.

I signed up today because I was excited about the album. Then I got on here and read all the doom and gloom. I don't care what any of you think. I love the album. I hope it makes Broadway and I can't wait to see it. You naysayers don't know what you are missing.

Finally listening to the album. I'm just baffled as to why they keep pegging this tour as a "revisal" when the production itself is a re-hash of older versions with some minor tweaks (and a rewrite of "Murder, Murder") with no real change. With all the trunk songs this show has you'd think they'd throw another one in (similar to the Resurrection version with "If You Only Knew").

I also don't understand why they go for these modern, rock-infused orchestrations on the album, and then in the show choose these extra-bombast, typical Broadway orchestrations.

I agree with you, philly. Constantine says in his BWW interview that the show is "completely reinvented from the ground up" and it's simply not true. Perhaps it's true from a visual stand point, but the stuff that actually needed to be changed (mostly the book) only underwent minor tweaks. That's not a complete reinvention that's a rehash.

Constantine also says an original cast recording is "down the road." I guess we'll see about that...

How do they know if they like it or not if they don't hear it? And it is possible for someone to like Maroulis and Cox and is open to change, but still doesn't like the recording or the production.

^I also want to reiterate that I'm still a very big fan of Jekyll & Hyde, just not of this production. I think, once again, they've wandered down the wrong road and ended up with an even bigger mess than before. I say that, because I want to love it! I hope they fix it.

Cox gave an interview that had me a little confused, something to the extent that they were re-introducing the show to the fans on tour, then "we will arrive on Broadway with a completely revived show, it will be reintroduced with a whole new twist. The sentiment and foundation of the story and music will remain intact, but the costumes and direction will be completely different—we want to set a new standard for the show."

I don't know if she means its going to be the tour on Broadway (I would assume it is since they are still touring in March) or if they plan to revamp it for Broadway.

^I think a problem with this version is it doesn't try to be "risky," its just a stereotypical production that I'm sure to Calhoun/Cox/Maroulis who haven't seen the show looks very good. To people who know the show its lackluster.

^I would hope that they don't make the same mistake as almost every other Wildhorn musical, and try out or tour one version of the show, and then open cold on Broadway with a completely new version. It hasn't worked the last five times...

I can't believe that everyone has left the show thinking that Teal Wicks is the star, because for me, Deborah is the standout on the CD. I am so glad this CD doesn't reek of autotune (unlike Wonderland/Jekyll Resurrection). But what is going on with the tempos/arrangements? So odd! But overall, I love the CD and could listen to Deborah Cox all day every day!
