LOS ANGELES -- John Spencer, who plays vice presidential candidate Leo McGarry on NBC's "The West Wing," died of a heart attack Friday, his publicist said.
Spencer, 58, died at a Los Angeles hospital, said his publicist, Ron Hofmann. The death was first reported by the syndicated program "The Insider."
This is so sad, I absolutely loved him in West Wing. He was such a fantastic actor and added so much to the show. My prayers are with his family.
Why do we play with fire?
Why do we run our fingers through the flame?
Why do we leave our hands on the stove, although we know we're in for some pain?
-tick...tick...BOOM!
I cannot begin to describe how sad I feel about this passing. I loved John Spencer and especially Leo. The West Wing was one of the reason's I got involved in Government, and I cannot emphasize how sad I feel at this moment.
I saw this earlier, and my heart sank. Normally I do not get upset over celebs' passing, but this really struck me.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. He will truly be missed.
In the post-Sorkin era, John Spencer was the only reason I kept watching the show. Having seen some of his earlier work in the past year, I was blown away with his talent.
Watching him act out a heart attack last season was incredibly heart-wrenching, especially now. He was too young to go.
I remember first seeing him on LA Law. How sad and sudden.
"Life is not measured by the number
of breaths we take, but by moments
that take our breath away."
"Life isn't about how to survive the storm,
but how to dance in the rain."
A friend of mine met him at a bar in NY a few summers ago and John invited my friend to come up to his apartment where they sat and talked all night sharing a few drinks and joints. My friend said it wasn't like talking to a rich and famous actor...just like chatting with a really good friend.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks." Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
