Kelly2 is completely right. As a performer, I would be highly offended that someone made an opinion (even if it was in my favor) about my performance that I have constructed for the STAGE by watching a bootleg video recording. Videos/B-rolls can help someone decide if a show looks at all appealing to them, but to say that someone should or shouldn't win an award based on a video you saw? That's irresponsible as a theatre supporter and makes your opinion laughable.
Whatever. I saw the first preview of FOLLIES and although the bootlegs that are available don't quite capture the excitement or tone of the show, it obviously isn't so different that it is like watching two different things (I mean it IS a record of the show, lol). The quality of bootlegs today are also higher quality than they were 5 or 10 years ago, too.
I will concede that it's probably not as good as judging a show live, but I think it is a hyperbole to say they are absolutely not the same thing. Bernadette's wonderful acting still shines through.

It's not and it doesn't.
Bernadette cries too much in the bootlegs.
And. It did.
This will be one of those mediocre shows that will fade away into well-deserved obscurity. Unfortunately, we will have to listen to those involved crow about it for a time longer.
And is that your official opinion?

Yes, but the GOOD news is that since so few of them were actually at Radio City Music Hall to see the Tonys in person, and only saw video of the Tonys, any opinions they have will "hold little weight".
