I loooove that picture of Chita, Arthur, and Karen. I love Karen's smile. Get well soon, girl!
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
"I have a feeling she won't be in for the rest of the month and possibly a little of next. Even if she is better she will need a few days to get situated and gain some energy"
I agree. I don't think she will be back right away even if she is better. She will need to get her energy back and I can only imagine how draining the role is. As for being fired, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Who fires their only Tony Award winning actress? Shes clearly the highpoint of the show.
"It's about the Benjamins, not the Bernsteins."-CapnHook
The show is sold out, so it wont hurt the box office. I wish her a speedy and thorough recovery. I dont want her relapsing by pushing herself too quickly.
"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal
"I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello
Actor's get "sick time" just like any other job. I don't know HOW MANY they get. So in extended illnessess it certainly IS possible that some of it goes unpaid. (But that's between the producers and Olivo.)
She'd only be fired if a: they were already unhappy with her (attitude, performance, etc) AND b: she couldn't verify her illness (drs. note)
I'm sure NEITHER of those things apply to this situation.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I'm a professional. Whenever something goes wrong on stage, I know how to handle it so no one ever remembers. I flash my %#$&.
"Jayne just sat there while Gina flailed around the stage like an idiot."
Could they legally "fire" someone with a contract because of an legit illness? I mean, seriously? I'm not that familiar with Equity, but I'd think they'd have something to protect you from that while sick.
Cody was out May 20th when I saw the show, and I heard he was out before that. And every time someone has seen the show since then or has checked the understudy board, they say he is out. Obviously something is going on.
Well I assure you he was there June 3rd, I was Orch row D and it was definitely him. No doubt something is going on with him if he's been off that much, but he has been on at least once since May 20th.
Has anyone tried asking some of the cast members at the stage door? I'm not sure if it's proper etiquette, but they might have some insight as to why Cody and Karen are out and when they're coming back.
It's interesting that after so much negativity about Karen Olivo's performance on the internet (much of it on BWW), so many are lamenting her ongoing illness and absence from the show. It's also good to hear so much concern expressed about her condition and the good will wishing her a speedy return. Let's face it, this talented actress has stimulated an extraordinary amount of interest and has impressed many with her talents. She's sorely missed at WSS. Hope she's well very soon.
I had a dream last night that Cody Green had brain damage and that's why he's been out. o.0 Premonition of the future? Or sign that you shouldn't read BWW before you go to bed?

The choosing was not...
