"Warriors" the musical coming to Broadway

The NYT article says it will be mostly sung through. Wouldn't be surprised to see some new songs added, they have some cushion.

I am excited for this. I really hope they don’t skimp on the scenic design. I can already imagine scuzzy graffiti-soaked subway stops. For some reason I keep thinking a scene should take place at the West Farms stop.

Anyone know who was involved with the workshops? The only person I remember seeing post anything was Casey Likes. Especially curious who they got for Cyrus and Luther.

It's David Korins on sets - so I don't think there will be any skimping (personally thought he should've won for Dog Day)

There are 35 characters in the concept album, and the cast of the stage version will only have around 20 people.

Something tells me they’re using the pre-recorded voices + maybe even some video of the DJ and boroughs (most of the star names on the album) as a cost-cutting measure.

I’m pretty sure we know each of the Warriors will continue on to Broadway.

Hot Take: this is going to run about a year.

Lin is going to cause a huge advance but this is not a show you will be able to take familes or school groups to and is based on a cult film and the weekly run cost is going to be absurd.

And THAT means I can get tickets comfortably.

I’m curious if they’ll make changes to Luther’s songs. I’m not sure anyone could do that to their voice 8 times a week. I assume at the very least his scream near the end would need to be prerecorded.

Nah. School group revenue is so important that I can't see them purposely creating a show that they couldn't sell to that group. In 2024 when I did matinees of Outsiders & Great Gatsby school groups filled 99% of the audience. A show about teenage gangs in NYC - there's no way that's not an educational experience. My only concern is that it might inspire a bunch of TikTokers to stop fapping in their bedrooms & go outside & form gangs where they suddenly break out into highly choreographed rumbles.

Also does anyone else think it's strange that announced dates, but then were like tickets on sale in 4 months. Actually a little grateful. Just last week in the Paddington thread I said that I hoped it started by Easter when I've committed to a trip.

Well either way one things for certain: 2027’s gonna be an insane year for LMM, between Warriors, a possible ITH transfer, Hamilton still running, AND the Octet movie (assuming that’s when it’s gonna be released)

I do wonder what the pricing will be like for this. Should be interesting to see how much Hamiltonmania affects it.

I fully expect it to be priced absurdly high

I wonder if they could commit to an artist in the genre like Kim Dracula (if not them themselves) who are used to shredding their voices like that. But then that does put into question the vocal load for understudies.

From a purely selfish point of view, I am curious about ticket prices, since I already know I will be in New York City in early April. It’s a large theater but anticipation for Lin-Manuel Miranda’s first musical since Hamilton will be quite high. Demand may die down, or grow more intense, depending on word of mouth.

Prices for decent seats to Evita and Paddington, which I already have purchased, have been reasonable - and they are known quantities (even if I am unfamiliar with the latter show). But I wonder if producers will set prices sky-high for this one.
