LMM working on THE WARRIORS musical? — Page 6

If this isn't until Spring '27, what goes into the Lunt -Fontanne until then? Something with enough star power to recoup from a limited run?

They may feel that between the album and the workshops, they’ve already learned everything that they would have taken from a run at the Public or NYTW.

It’s a huge gamble to mount a show 2.5x as big as Hamilton. Especially with a director who is not a known quantity on Broadway and has never worked with a budget like that.

Lin will draw crowds for previews and the first couple of months, but ultimately the show will live or die based on the strength of the material and its ability to draw and move the masses.

Am I alone in thinking that the album kind of came and went?? Following trends of pop music is not my specialty so that could be a misguided observation.

It certainly has the ingredients of an event and I imagine investors will be falling over themselves to get in on it.

I'm assuming the production is too big for any of the Public's spaces so it was probably deemed unnecessary to do a downtown run. I always wondered what Hamilton would look like if it had done a regular out of town try out and not been stuck with the limitations of the Public's space.

Now, if only STRANGER THINGS gets ousted for IN THE HEIGHTS, while FREESTYLE LOVE SUPREME schedules a 2-3 month limited run at the Imperial... Miranda would complete what would be a wildblock monopoly at some point in 2027."

God this sounds like the seventh level of hell.

I'd be slightly more enthused about this if I knew someone other than Tommy Kail was directing. His work as of late has been so uninspired (don't get me started on Sweeney). It would be nice to see Lin collaborate with other artists as I think he could do with a bit of a foil that challenges him to push his work in different directions.

Everything from In the Heights to Hamilton to his work with Disney is operating at the top of his game, but all of it could live in the same show. The Warriors album was no different. He's excellent at what he does. But it's starting to feel been there done that. To ME.

I'll believe Kail isn't involved in this for Broadway when I see the official announcement. Koons' resume seems more geared toward experiential events rather than ever having directed a full musical by herself at this level, so color me skeptical.

I'll be on the lookout for a "Creative Consultant" credit on the opening night title page.

The show is now confirmed for the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, previews starting in March with an April opening.

Miranda will not be in the cast, which has yet to be announced (will be a company of 20). Jenny Koons and Andy Blankenbuehler will co-direct, with Blankenbuehler also credited as choreographer.

Lead producers are Jeffrey Seller, Thomas Kail, Lin-Manuel and Luis Miranda.

Tickets will go on sale in October.

No doubt Andy Blankenbuehler is an acclaimed choreographer and all, but his "co-direction" track is questionable to say the least. One of the most hideous thing I've ever seen on stage, Only Gold, was co-directed by him and had a very Hamilton-like choreo. Remembering how horrible and senseless that production was still makes me laugh. I hope The Warriors book is very strong and the other co-director is capable.

ONLY GOLD was primarily a dance piece - and meant as such. He directed and choreographed it.

I'm not surprised Blankebeuhler is joining Koons now. Koons does not have Broadway experience, which is a different thing than downtown theater. She probably needs guidance. If Miranda wanted just her to helm the project at this point, she would be the sole director.

I looked right past that, but I imagine they don’t want to interrupt the momentum of the story with a relaxing intermission. One act doesn’t necessarily mean 90 minutes, though.
