Did anyone here happen to see the King and I, during it's 1978 revival when Angela Lansbury and Michael Kermoyan ( 2 weeks only ), took over for Yul Brynner and Constance Towers while they went on vacation?
I wish I could have seen it... too bad I wasn't alive yet.
Wow, if only someone recorded that, it must have been amazing!
Rosscoe, there was a thread about this some time ago and someone posted a photo of the poster featuring Angela Lansbury. She looked stunning.

ljay, thanks. At least I remembered the picture of her. I was searching, but only got through June 2007. Looks like I had a long way to go!!
Would anyone have anymore pictures, maybe color from playbill?

I don't know if there were any color images produced -- I'm pretty sure that's the same imagine (minus the text of course) that appeared on the Playbill, also in black and white (I used to have a copy of it; I gave it to a friend).

And not that it matters but according to text on that poster she played the role for 3 weeks.
morosco, thanks for the link to the larger poster, but can i just say that thread was a cat fight!!
I can't see the larger version. It's a red "X".
Did that help Cats?

Yea, that's the same artwork that's on the Playbill
Love to the commasplice!
Oh, Angela's version of "Getting to Know You" is by far my favorite out of all of them!
Ethan Mordden points out that when Angela did this stint that it was the first time since Gertrude Laurence originated the role that the "Anna" had more star power than the "King".
Is it true she had the famous Getting to Know You dress re-designed because she didn't think the strips flattered her?

I can't remember where I heard/read that, BFB, but I heard the same thing.
I wonder what happened to the shoes she were during the production.
The audio for "Shall We Dance" is wonderful.

Angela was wonderful.
Anyone else have the terrific recording of Julie Andrews and Ben Kingsley doing it. That would be a dream cast.
One thing people forget is that Gertrude Lawrence brought the idea to R & H. Another fact is that Mary Martin suggested Yul Brynner for the role. He has been in Lute Song with her and was a TV director at the time.
