An experience filled with memories I will treasure.

Did you ever go through a time where you were getting sick of being known as Mark even though you'd done so much on stage and screen before and after that experience? (And I know you're surrounded by RENT fans right now, but I think we can take it.)

But why? Don't get me wrong.
I'm a huge fan of Adventures in Babysitting -- and probably one of a few people on this board old enough to have seen it when it was new.
I enjoyed Anthony in Road Trip and A Beautiful Mind.
His voice on the Rent CD and in the recording of "Visits to You" is pretty compelling.
That famous pose of him crouching and his singing his heart out during "La Vie Boheme" will always be my earliest memory of Rent.
And having performed "Grow for Me" to a large audience before, I have absolutely nothing against anyone who has played Seymour in "Little Shop." :)
But alas, the RENT film is not even in production. Why should anyone be reassured of its quality based on any one person's comments at this juncture? I'm sure the vast majority of us will see it opening day and probably more than once even if our reactions are lukewarm, but having your minds changed so easily isn't good. For the entirety of my life, I've personally known a figure in American politics who is in the news daily (and often not in the most favorable context). But do I respond to every negative article about him by saying, "I know him! I like him! Everything that's being said about him can't be true!" ? No. Because that's not what being open-minded means.

Okay, well, I generally shy but I really wanted to say:
Thanks so very much, Anthony, for taking the time to clear up questions about the Rent movie, as well as other questions people may have :). It's so much more than 'nice' that you care enough to inform fans about what's up, down, sideways or etc. Thank you so much! I cannot wait until the movie is more underway/in production.
Oh, and the screename: it definitely provided several smiles (especially because I'm one from the generation that was of Spice Girl fandom, however brief it ended up being, heh- I even saw them in concert-minus Ginger, of course, who had already left)
*realizes there are so many posts that make this one more irrelevant to current topic at hand*
So, I'll revert the subject back to "Sports We Like"
Anthony (and anyone else!) : you should try Ice Hockey :)
I'm definitely the girl that nobody would expect to play sports, nontheless Ice Hockey, but I love it. And I couldn't really skate when I started playing in '02. (Also Note: I play for a girls team, which means no checking, thank heavens....I play for my high school's--which is one of two public hs girl's teams in the state of NJ--so we're technically state champs too lol. Unfortunately we're also funded less than the boys team, leaving our team to raise our own funds, last weekend holding a Rock-A-Thon in Palmer Square where team members rocked in rocking chairs for 12 hours straight. It was fun.)
Anyway, yeah, I also have to get up at 4.30 in the morning (yes, on school days) for on-ice practice, which you have to be on the ice at 5.30 for, but it's worth it. (I play goalie...)
Yeah...enough of me prosylitizing for Ice Hockey. :)
(I apologize but I tend to ramble when I email, post or etc because I'm shy and it is easier to type and get lost in a major inner-monolgue type thing, if that makes sense.)
*realizes i'm taking too long to post and this is once again irrelevant!*
Back to, uh, what everyone was really talking about...sorry! :)

I think I said somewhere that no one can tell for sure how it will turn out, but I can say that all of our intentions are in the right place, and that, at least, bodes well. But sure, remain open-minded. But try having a little faith, too.
I'm also not sure what point your argument about your political friend is making. Can you elaborate?

first of all, I have been one of those people arguing for the OBC to do this movie from the start, so I can't really speak for those who seem to have been easily persuaded by Anthony. But I believe that his involvement and the involvement of other OBC members gives the project more credibility because they wouldn't have agreed if they didn't think it was going to be good. They're the ones who were there for the birth of the show, who got to see Jon's vision being created and were a real part of it. I don't think they would agree to do the movie if they didn't have faith that it would turn out well and honor that original vision.
edit: I guess it took me a while to type that, because others have posted while I was typing!

My thoughts are thorough, I guess (there's gotta be a reason why my posts are so long and as this is off-topic-without-really-being-off-topic-because-of-when-I-started-writing-it....)
*Sorry again*
..and I just realized I have an icon uploaded here to, how 'bout that?

"I'm also not sure what point your argument about your political friend is making. Can you elaborate?"
Just that no one should be able to alter anyone else's perception of reality just because s/he has a name that rings a bell, is well-liked, etc. Praising a work while it's still a blank slate is just silly. In fact, I think that was the inspiration for the play "Art" that was on Broadway five years ago.

Anyone wanna put money on that?
(And for Evelyn's defense, I don't think anyone here can dispute that she's been the biggest keener for the whole RENT movie. I don't think I've ever seen her post about anything that's not movie related. And I frequent CB too. She's just cautiously optimistic. Which is a good thing.)
