I'd trust the HP source. I'd especially trust my source. He's "in" with the old and current cast (seeing as he is one of them).
Now my sadness begins. Hoping someone will confirm Taye though for sure. Mixed feelings about Adam. I don't think Jesse looks a day older than he did in 1996, so I'm good with that.

I'd expect Taye to be in if Idina is.

So who do we think they'll cast as Mimi?

If it's true, I'm beyond happy. There are so many ways people would have *liked* to have seen it cast, but please. We could do SOOOO much worse than having original cast members asked to do the movie. It's not the end of the world, and I'll never understand this debate over age. It's not that hard to see how it can work - and the whining and complaining about it is more annoying than any casting news I've heard. Inevitably someone is not going to be happy with how it's cast no matter what he does and I'm guessing it's going to be like this as every role is filled. *sigh* Acting like this is the worse thing to ever happen to the movie is way overdramatic. Just think - he could have cast it full of people who were names but couldn't sing and had to have singing doubles. Then some of you would really be throwing yourselves over balconies right about now.....

I think what we have to be most happy about is that if they've agreed to it, the OBC obviously approves of the script. They all knew Jonathan. Meaning they wouldn't agree if it was completely murdered.

Becky-Word! You are my hero!
I however do not endorse anyone throwing themselves of a balcony! If you really want to make a point, a fire escape works better.
Okay, I'm done being silly...well, for now.

Well said, Becky. My favorite comment -- I don't remember if it's from this board or some others -- is: "Oh, they might as well have just taped the RENT OBC and release that!". I mean, because a few of the OBC might have gotten cast, that means everything will be an exact copy of the 1996 production? And for months I seem to have heard a lot of: "I think they should ONLY do the movie if all 15 of the OBC comes back for it." And now that we have news that several of them might have been cast, of course: the wailing is just as bad...

Actually, before you jump to conclusions again, as I said in my original post, if you go to Compulsive Bowlers, my "in" friend has posted it publicly himself. (And FYI, he's not quite a "friend" of mine.) So I'm safe, and I wouldn't have posted this info if it had been obtained any other way. But thank you for your concern.

I do agree with NTG... the fact that Idina agreed must mean that the script isn't butchered. Or maybe she was just doing her part to save it...
Tiff, why the 'mixed feelings' about Adam? I don't care if you dislike him, I've not sure what I think about him doing this movie myself, I just want to know.

I will give it a chance. As much as I don't like the idea of the movie without Jon there to approve/disapprove of it, I will go see the movie.
Count on me squealing through the whole movie. I'll be sitting there in the theater like a babbling idiot going "OMG IT'S THE OBC!!!"
I think Jesse and Taye look pretty much like they did back in '96. Idina still looks great, but I don't know about her being Maureen again. I'm sure she'll be fine. Adam is just Adam, and he can still rock OSG and AD. As long as those 2 songs aren't butchered, I'm perfectly fine with it.

Tiff ADORES Adam and freaked like a fangirl when he walked past her at the Imperial Theatre in April. Only her desire to meet Hugh Jackman stopped her from jumping on Mr. Pascal. So no worries, it's not a dislike of The Luscious Adam Pascal.
No, my mixed feelings are because I think the rest of the OBC who's "confirmed" can pass for the requisite younger, twenty-something age (esp. Taye and Idina), but Adam, as gorgeous and talented and wonderful as he is, looks like he's in his 30s. Which is fine, they can change his age in the movie, but it'll be creepy to hook up a mid-30something yr old with a 19 year old who looks 16. And Mimi needs to be young. It's part of her "young girl with an old heart" character.

Oh, wow, hadn't even thought about that...
Mimi needs to look like a highschool-aged girl- how creepy would it be to have her with a thirtysomething? I hope that makeup works.

Picture Adam Pascal hooking up with Hillary Duff or the Olsen twins. They'll let him "make" her.
There, there. Here's that barf bucket.
See what I mean?
I suppose Columbus could always film the entire movie with soft lighting and lenses, like in the soap operas. Maybe?

When I said current cast I didnt quite mean EVERYONE, just the ones I mentioned. Because aside from the stunt casting, the others are fantastic.
Im secretly praying Andy Meeks gets bumped to Broadway after Drew.
As for the OBC being in the movie, I think its wonderful, especially since it is so MUCH of the OBC.

If we're wishing for broadway people, I want Dominique to play Mimi. She can act nineteen but doesn't look so young that you would want to arrest Adam for stautory rape or whatever. (I think that's what that's called) And her singing is great.

ahh! Dominique is AWESOME. And arrested Adam would be sad.

But who would you want to be Angel? I don't have a favorite.

I can't quite picture one of the Olsens singing "Out Tonight," can you? I'm betting whoever is cast as Mimi will be in her early to mid-twenties. The age specific dialog about her doesn't absolutely have to be kept, either.

Posted: 10/28/04 at 11:45pm
It doesn't have to be kept, but I think it's really important to Mimi's character that he stays jaded *for her age*, and I think by her mid-twenties, it's too "late", if that makes sense.
