Since there's no word of Three Tall Women extending, Roseanne cancelled and no movies coming up (as far as IMDB is concerned), what is next for this extraordinary two time Tony Award-winning actress? She can do no wrong in my book. Feel free to dream cast her (Rosemary in Picnic is my dream role for her).

There were rumors that ABC was trying to develop a series around Laurie Metcalf, John Goodman and some of the other "Roseanne" cast members (since they're on contract anyway) with them playing different characters (in order to avoid having to pay Roseanne anything).

Rumor is her and Nathan Lane in a revival of Death of a Salesman next season. Whatever she does, I want her back on stage. It's truly the Golden Age of Metcalf.

A good long vacation? The woman went directly from Doll's House, to Roseanne filming, to Lady Bird press/awards, to Three Tall Women (which began previews before the Oscars). Not to mention Misery and a Steppenwolf play in the previous season, and some Big Bang Theory/other TV episodes. It's kind of amazing how much she works (and how consistently good she is).

She has said previously she was taking a month of vacation after THREE TALL WOMEN prior to filming ROSEANNE. I wouldn't be shocked to see DEATH OF A SALESMAN happen next year with her and Lane - isn't Scott Rudin attached to that project?

Wow I never knew I needed to see her as Fraulein Schneider in Cabaret.

The 2012 revival of Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman," starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Andrew Garfield, won the Tony Award for revival of a play. Scott Rudin, one of the producer's of the revival, accepted the award and was joined on stage by the play's cast.
"Death of a Salesman" was one of the top-selling productions of the recent Broadway season. The show, directed by Mike Nichols, commanded top ticket prices and regularly played to full houses at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.
The revival opened in March and closed on June 2.
I doubt Rudin will be involved again with another revival.

My apologies for starting a second thread, didn't see there was already a thread on this magnificent actress (but there should be a million threads about her because she's so fantastic).

I have to agree with Joe Mantello when he says that Laurie can do ANYTHING. She is on fire right now. Regardless of whether a Roseanne-less show is created in the next few months, she and the entire cast are still getting paid for the next season that never was.
She'll be back on Broadway next season.

Sister Aloysius in Doubt.
Oh god yes. We need a Doubt revival.

I don't care if she says she has barely any singing skills, I NEED her as Rose in "Gypsy" as soon as possible. She sings the tiniest bit at 19:20.

It's actually not even slightly funny how good Laurie Metcalf's Mama Rose would be. I'm not totally confident about her carrying the score eight times a week, but her acting in that role would be beyond legendary. God.

Honestly, I wouldn't even be that mad if she couldn't sing it. She would be so good as Rose that you wouldn't even realize she was nearly speaking the whole thing.

Just fyi, she's already played Mary Tyrone. You can watch it on Digital Theatre and she is incredible.

Honestly, just give her her own theatre where she can do whatever she wants. I'd subscribe.

When August: Osage County first started casting replacements, and after I had seen Estelle Parsons as Violet, I had a dream of Laurie as Barbara and have been haunted by the idea of it ever since. Sadly, she is just slightly too old for Barbara. She’ll be old enough to play Violet in about 10 years though, so... fingers crossed. Similarly, I have always imagined her Martha in Woolf and even the idea in my head gives me goosebumps. (Her and Amy Morton have a very similar humor and edge to them that I just can’t get enough of.)
Whoever mentioned Mama Rose is a g-d genius. In several interviews, she has mentioned the one thing she wishes she could do as an actress is sing, so with the right director and singing coach, she could perhaps be coerced.
I would personally love to see her in a two-woman show with Viola Davis where they just scream and cry at each other and tell withering jokes.

This is where I'm at. Even if she can't sing well, she'd do better than Tyne Daly did back in the 90s in my opinion.

Rudin, Lane, Metcalf and Mantello directing. But, it is just that...a rumor. Nothing definite yet although when it was suggested half-jokingly, both actors seemed to like the idea.

Until after I had watched several episodes of "Young Sheldon," I didn't realize that Zoe Perry, who plays the mother, is Metcalf's daughter. I just thought she was a fine mimic who even looks like Metcalf. I like her very much, and would wish for mother and daughter to perform together.
