I think a lot of us are dying for design/staging/costume info. Would you care to spill, friars? You could put a spoilers warning if you want... and even if you don't... thanks for reporting back anyway!!!
Can someone who attended post the song list as per tonight's preview performance?
"Is that a Flotsam or Jetsam puppet in the background?"
I'm thinking that's part of a mermaid costume. Flotsam & Jetsam aren't puppets, they're wearing full-body leotard-things with some extra parts sewn on...It's hard to explain...
"Was Ursula purple? What color was her hair? I'm trying to visualize this character."
Her face was sort of a shiny, pale greyish-white color, her chest was the same color with a pale blue color added on it. Her hair is white, and is really teased and pulled up in a tall, pointy sort of style...Again, she's sort of hard to explain...Think a skinnier, more natural(skin tone) version of the movie Ursula.
"But is Sherie's Ursula fat?"
No. Her hips are big, but above the waist she's skinnier.
"but how was the story telling?"
Great for what it is. It's not an extremely complicated story. It's essentially the movie's story, but more fleshed out. I just wish they'd have given more time to the Ursula/Triton relationship...
"What was the staging like?!"
The blocking and choreography is all excellent. Under The Sea especially is one of the show's high points. It rivals anything in The Lion King.
So what were the different ways they conveyed swimming?

Also what B3TA07 said...If Only, Waisting away, and All good Things Must End weren't cut were they..If Only was one of my favorite new songs on the demo...
I'm pretty sure "Wasting Away" was replaced by the song Friar calls "I Want The Good Times Back."

Aww I really liked Waisting Away, I thought it was really funny..

I especially want to hear about how the heelys worked; that's the one thing about this production I've felt iffy about...

FOR THOSE OF YOU WANTING TO KNOW...SOME SPOILERS...
The sets:
-Underwater-There's two giant tower things on either side of the stage with long "branch" things on the side, the branch looking things lift up and down, which is used during Under The Sea to let some of the fish "swim." On the ground, there's a series of plexiglass wave-things that lower into the stage when the story is on land. There's also a large round blue diamond-looking thing that hangs in the back.
-Ursula's lair-It's almost all dark, with some lighting being projected against a screen in back with lights that writhe around like tentacles. There's a GIANT glowing orb that Ursula sits in like a throne that Flotsam & Jetsam usually wheel on. Also, a lot of green lighting is used.
-Prince Eric's Palace/land-The lighting changes from blues and greens to more orange and bright colors. The screen in back is made to look like the inside of the palace, the towers seem to change colors to reflect the palace setting, and the diamond-thing in back flips and turns to an orange-ish color to reflect the sun. When in the palace, it turns horizontal and the center lifts up to make it look like a chandelier.
-The ship-Prince Eric's ship lowers down and sits about halfway above the stage, with fiberglass waves rising up to look like it's sailing on the ocean.
The costumes:
Ariel/The mermaids-All fairly simple. They all have the shell-bikini tops, different colors. Their bottoms are long skirts, with tails that come off the back, at about the knee.
Ursula-Black floor-length dress, the part of her chest you can see is painted a pale blueish/white color, her face is a similair color. Her tentacles sort of drape off around her like a skirt. A few points in the show, they lift up and form a sort-of circle around her(it might be hard to visualize, but it looks fangoddamntastic when you see it).
Flotsam & Jetsam-They're green. They're wearing full body leotard-esque things that are pretty loose fitting, and look like they have plastic scales sewn on to them, they have hoods with mohawk-esque things on them(sort of like what they had in the movie). Also, on their heads they have two long, narrow patches that glow when the lights are out, which is how they do their glowing eyes for the show. Their faces have a few spots painted green(noses, cheeks, etc)
Sebastian-He's dressed similair to Zazu in the Lion King. A red suit, with a small red top hat with crab eyes on it. His face is painted red in some spots.
Scuttle-Is a mess. He has a sort of white feather jacket thing on, with what looks like a red pot on his head with a beak attatched to it. He's got dark shorts, and black & yellow striped tights under those with long red clown boots on.
Flounder-Simple. His hair was spiked up and was blue on top. He was wearing a long yellow shirt with blue spots and stripes on it.
Triton-Similair to the movie. He didn't have the giant crown though.
Prince Eric-Just like the movie. VVVVEEEEEEEERRRRRYYYYY tight pants.

I wasn't sure they'd work either going in, but they actually look pretty good. They look like they're actually gliding. The characters I thought they worked best for were Flounder along with Flotsam & Jetsam.

"show curtain?"
I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but the curtain that rises and lowers before and after the show, and during intermission is just a plain black screen with glowing blue outlines of various sea creatures on it. It almost looks like a fish version of those glow-in-the-dark stars that people stick on the ceiling in their bedrooms.

Oh. lame.
I'm excited to see photos from this cause I can't imagine what it looks like.
my favorite songs from the demo were her voice and if only...
it looks like if only was put in a different part of the show, because i thought initially in the demo it was when eric and ariel first meet, and he discovers shes cant talk (essentially the scene on the mini rock, in the movie)...
when does it take place now?
and now its a quartet?
DETAILS PLEASE! :)

Her voice is after Ariel rescues Eric and he starts searching for the woman who saved him. He fell in love with her because of her voice and so he's pretty much telling that to Grimsby.
If Only is a 4 way now(that sounded wrong...), with Ariel singing(not really. It's her in her own mind since she doesn't have a voice) about if only she could get Eric to love her, Eric, I couldn't really understand his part of the song so I can't tell you what he's singing about, Sebastian is singing if only he could think of a way to get Eric to kiss Ariel in order to save her, and Triton is singing about if only he could get his daughter back.
Whoa, could they have more reprises?
YAY!
I can't WAIT to see this.
LITTLE MERMAID is one of my all time favorite Disney movies!
:)
How much stage time do Flotsam and Jetsam really get?
Also, how's Tituss Burgess? I haven't heard a lot mentioned about him.
So, Ursula is Triton's sister in this production?
I read in another thread that Sebastian was just going to have his face and hands painted red, so his fingers were like claws. I guess they decided to go against this idea?

How was the Kiss The Girl scene? I haven't heard a lot of people talk about that.

It is one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. I couldn't close my mouth for the first 3 minutes. Everything about this show is incredible. As a stage manager I see a lot of faults in shows, and I could only see things that will improve as the show goes on.
I'll post a real review later.

Can't wait for your review! I swear whenever I listen to this demo or think about the musical, I become my six year old self with the little mermaid shirt, raincoat, and Ariel doll all over again. Not to mention the McDonald's happy meal figurines
