I really enjoyed it. Carrie's acting wasn't the best, but her singing was wonderful. Obviously Audra McDonald killed it. I guess my biggest gripe would have to do with the script. Or maybe it had to do with inserting commercials in. But, act 1 seemed to go on forever and act 2 was like 45 minutes. Is that always how it is done on stage?
Yeah, I saw a lot of comments how people were confused about it not following the movie. And then the kicker is that people praised Carrie Underwood for live performing this because no other actress today could do it. Really? I guess they forgot about the people whose lives are theater. Funny because there were a ton of them in this.

I hope NBC takes a hint when they look back and see that relatively lesser-known Laura Benanti and Audra McDonald trended on Twitter, but the star and more famous Carrie Underwood did not... for better or for worse.
Again for those who are in the know, what is DVR adjustment exactly and how much of an effect does it have on networks decisions for greenlighting future productions/series/etc.
Since I'm assuming people on DVR's don't watch the commercials - do advertisers care about them?
HBP - Without Carrie, there is no broadcast tonight. Trends on Twitter carry much less weight than overall ratings. Those ratings are a result of a country superstar on national television, whether you like it or not. It's really that simple.
I Had a smile on my face from start to finish. Completely charming- any "flaws" only made the experience for me all the more endearing as live television. Bravo to all-may this be the start of a delightful new holiday tradition.
If they do another one next year (or whenever), it will be because this one "worked" for them. So don't look for any changes in perception of why it worked, meaning ratings, not quality.
So you'll have a show that everybody knows, or at least thinks they know because they've all seen the movie. That would be Grease or Guys and Dolls (oops, not family enough) or Annie again. Or maybe Grease. Or perhaps Grease. (And really, nobody listens to the lyrics enough to realize that they swear in it.)
And it will star someone that everybody knows. Whether they can sing, dance, or even speak four words in a row.
So you won't see A Little Night Music starring Carrie Underwood, but you also won't see Grease starring Laura Benanti. The show AND the name have to be easily recognizable.

Yeah, I think if Laura Benanti had played Maria, there would have been significantly less interest from the general public. I had to tell my parents who she was when we watched. This isn't Live From Lincoln Center on PBS.

Well, I was more thinking that people who are fans of the movie might tune in just for that. Then get pissed off that it isn't the same.
