BOO!!!!!
BOO!!!!!
NYadgirl, can you think of any notable flat sections? I haven't heard it, and I've been listening closer since and you and others made note of it. I agree that she isn't a light lyrical soprano, but I don't think her pitch is flat.
*applause* for esparza 333.
Well done!
You're booing? That's not classy.
Well I think we all have to give a big congrats to esparza 333! This was kind of a big deal.
haha...no one has taken off their microphones and you can hear them behind the voiceover dude.
Congrats though to Esparza 333. What a great oportunity!
I didn't watch the entire broadcast, but her "Simple Folk" sounded very flat and forced to me. Not light and floaty... her pitch was under the notes.
Again, my ears, my opinion.
Hey Eris, where were those microphones? I could not see a single one on anyone's head.
Esparaza333 was the best person in it.
it's on at 1am here in orlando, snifff addy dont tell me that i love Marin. snifff and cats in the orignal book, if ever is 10 min in to act 2 right before 7 deadly virtues
You guys are too picky. I think Byrne acted great. Not a singer but great actor. Mazzie's voice is lovely.
Be aware it's a concert, not full production.
Byrne is much better than Michael York, actingly wise.

my CPA husband is doing his happy dance that he talked me out of buying tickets.
was Esparaza 333 the boy?

Marin actually is a little pitchy. It's when she sings in her head voice . I think her vibrato's so wide it sags a bit. But honestly she has been like that a lately. I'd love her if she weren't.
Random but I'm not a fan of Bobby's portrayl. He seems a bit forced and the whole drag queen thing is not in line with the rest of the production. It's weird and accents aren't his forte.
But we have to remember this is a concert. These things are thrown away.
I am looking forward to seeing it 'live' tomorrow night.
Despite my criticism of the broadcast tonight.
It has one of the most beautiful scores, and I am quite sure that being there will provide a wonderful energy which was missing for me on TV tonight.
During closeups I could clearly see Marin's mic nestled in the front of her wig. Not mounted to her forehead like usual.

GREAT PRODUCTION! Marin Mazzie is NOT flat! I repeat: she's not even a little bit flat.
Congrats to Esparza333!!!! (:
I love this score!
My only quarrel: they should have hired someone who can sing to play King Arthur.
The staging is phenomenal, considering this is ONLY a semi-staged production (it's not a full production, folks, it was never intended to be)
They are just starting act II here - I'm in Boston, so they must have tape delayed it an hour here??
I still don't understand the negativity - this is a wonderful show!
"Hey Eris, where were those microphones? I could not see a single one on anyone's head."
I have no idea but while the credits rolled and the voiceover dude talked about Lerner and Loewe you could definitely hear the cast talking and laughing behind him. I know I heard Marin's voice. Then someone must have pushed a button because it suddenly ceased.

im not completely sure i thought bobby was in drag ... he honestly seemed to me more like an 80s glam wannabe or something.
(which admittedly can be a grey line at times, but if you lived through it you know the difference!)

Absolutely. It wasn't drag but rather 80's glam/goth
Feel better?

ehhh it's a slight difference. I mean he's not trying to come off as a female with a sequence gown but a wig, severe make-up and heels isn't exact COMEPLETELY standard for the 80's...it's gay 80's. Either way it seemed really random.
And I repeat, Marin WAS pitchy. But I love her. Pitch isn't exactly subjective. It's there or it isn't. It wasn't...I guarentee you. That doesn't make Marin any less of a great performer. We all fall off the pitch wagon and get hit by the flat truck. It happens.
