Hi all,
I’m trying to identify a song from (I think) a modern Broadway show. The central theme is about “coming home” — when things go bad, you can always come back home.
I think it’s sung solo by a woman (possibly a mother or grandmother). I originally thought it was from In the Heights, but I can’t find it there, so I may be wrong.
I don’t remember the melody or exact lyrics, but the feeling and message of the song are very much about coming home no matter what.
Does anyone recognize this? I’d really appreciate your help!
“The Feeling We Once Had” or “Home” from The Wiz?
Could it be my favorite song from Matilda My House?

Are you sure you weren't thinking of In the Heights?
The show has "Breathe" sung mostly by Nina with lyrics like:
But maybe I should have just stayed home (Mira, Nina)
When I was a child I stayed wide awake
Climbed to the highest place
On every fire escape
Restless to climb (Respira)
I got every scholarship
Saved every dollar
The first to go to college
How do I tell them why (Respira)
I’m coming back home? (Ah)
With my eyes on the horizon
Just me and the GWB
Asking, “Gee, Nina, what’ll you be?"
and also the song "When You're Home" sung by Nina and Benny with lyrics like:
Nina, everything is easier when you’re home
The street’s a little kinder when you’re home
Can’t you see that the day seems clearer
Now that you are here or is it me?
Maybe it’s just me…
Home from Beetlejuice?
It's not the one you are looking for, but I'm Coming Home is the only song I really love in Rocky Horror.

You might be thinking of the closing song from Rodgers and Hammerstein's Allegro.

Not a modern Broadway show, obviously, but a musical from 1947 whose score received a complete recording in 2009. Audra McDonald is the lead singer on Come Home here. Patrick Wilson, Laura Benanti, Norbert Leo Butz and Liz Callaway are some of the other prominent singers on the recording.
"A Place Called Home" from the Alan Menken A Christmas Carol fits the bill, I think.

It’s “Enough” from In The Heights. Sung by Camila, Nina’s mother. It was cut from the film because Camila did not survive the adaptation.

Great choice! Actual title is “I’m Going Home”.
