She did audition for Morrible for the Los Angeles sit-down production at the Pantages back in 2005 but negotiations fell thru. Carol Kane ended up playing the role in that production of WICKED. I believe she had certain requests the producers obviously didn't agree to as the role suits her perfectly on many levels and its not a vocally challenging role by any stretch of the imagination. I'm also sure it wasn't a technical audition but more of a "show us how you'd play Madame Morrible."
Maybe back during recession 2008-2009 but honestly Wicked doesn’t need to stunt cast at all. It seems to me they change mostly keep Elphaba/Glinda actors for only 1-2 years and then replacing them.
also I know of at least 2 friends who now wants to see the show on Broadway to learn what happens in part 2 (or at least know how it ends.)
It’d be nice to have a link to the 1939 movie, even if most of the audience wouldn’t care. Some of us would!
Liza at some point over the last 21 years would have been great. Even better, in an alternate universe, 81 year old Judy herself starring in the original cast.
Beyoncé is not an ally. Actions speak louder than words, Mrs. Carter. #Dubai #$$$

You got it a little messed up. Lorna was considered to replace in Los Angeles . It ended up going to Jo Anne Worley.

And the LA sit down didn’t even start until 2007 anyway.

Maybe not stunt casting, but definitely gimmick casting.

I actually messaged with Jackee on MySpace (lol) back when that was going on. It was the intention that she would be going on the tour, but she had another Gig with Tonya Pinkins that came up at the same time that she decided to take instead?

Well I mean, they have consistently cast this role with older known actresses and Broadway Character Actresses from the jump. Carol Kane, Rue McClanahan, Joanne Worley, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Jayne Houdyshell, Miriam Margoyles, Donna McKechnie,
All love but Lorna would get gays of a certain demographic and approximately zero other people. No point in paying her more when the show is already selling out and 97 percent of the Gershwin would say “who?”

Stunt casting doesn't inherently mean casting a big name celebrity, it's any kind of PR stunt. Casting Judy Garland's daughter in a Wizard of Oz related project would totally qualify, because 100% the press would write about it.
