Haven't seen a review on here in a while, but I'll post one anyway.
I saw WS for the second time last night, and Tina was on for Julia. I was quite excited considering how almost everyone on BWW likes her better in the role. I was pleasantly surprised - her Julia is lovable, cute, and goofy. From the second she came onstage you fell in love with her. There were only a couple of things I didn't really respond to. When she would sing, there were very few times when I could truly hear her. I was sitting in row R, mind you, but I don't think my seat had anything to do with that. The same thing happened to me when I saw Barrett in Avenue Q, except I was in the front mezz. I don't know...that bugged me, especially because Julia's character has a lot of great songs. The other thing that felt a little wacky was that at times, Tina would overdo a joke or add something in for extra laughs. There were a few times when it worked, but the audience was completely dead, so nearly no one laughed. Overall she did a great job and really pulled off Julia.
The show is in great shape; everyone's doing such a good job. There isn't really a part of this show I don't like. But I do have to comment on Constantine...and here comes my rant....
Oh, Constantine. He had a different take on the role...I'll say that. I was in amongst the Constantine-throng, and they cheered whenever he came onstage and said everyone else paled in comparison. Whenever he came onstage, I noticed that he said all of his lines the exact same way. The same intonation, the same hand gestures, the same face. This was one thing that irritated me. Another was that whenever he came onstage, he had to steal the scene or try and make it into a laugh. Two particular moments stood out in this sense: 1) when Robbie is throwing Linda out (which is already comical), Constantine skates in and he made it so it was impossible to look anywhere else. 2) When Constantine and Kevin leave right before "If I Told You", Constantine took his time sauntering down the aisle and letting fans grab out and touch him. It totally killed the beginning of such a pivotal moment in the show.
I actually bought the tickets forgetting Constantine was in it. The original was a million times better, as I'm sure the understudies are.
All in all, it was a good show.

Excellent review BroadwayBaby and that's very good to hear about Tina going on! I miss her soooooooooo much and I haven't seen her in like 2 months BOO!!! Maybe I'll get lucky sometime soon and get to see her again, hopefully.
Haha and I'm a little late with this reply sorry but ClumsyDude15: I was just thinking last night about how much I miss ASU, lolz. Amazing show. If I had seen it as many times as I have seen WS and spent my entire summer last year there it would have been worth the same to me as WS.

Saw the show yesterday..Constantine's performance reminded my of Dana Carvey doing his John Travolta (as Vinnie Barbarino) imitation. Funny, but not really original.
I'm not criticizing his performance--just couldn't get that out of my mind.
Regarding not being able to hear some words of the songs--could it have been the miking? I noticed Kevin Cohoon at the matinee was occasionally hard to hear.
Gotta say--Laura sings quite beautifully.

The things Laura does to me with that voice of hers.
Well...it wouldn't be appropriate to discuss on a public message board.
Nuff said.

Just as a heads-up. Laura will be out this Tuesday through Friday.
And before the vultures descend, this is a planned absence, she's not sick.
l love you without knowing how... or when... or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride.
I love you because I know no other way than this.
I believe in fate
But it's up to us to follow through

Don't worry about the immature comments, folks.
Allentown is about as popular on this board as a cold sore is on prom night.
