I didn't get a chance to see the show ( sadly i doubt I ever will...)...I just listen to the cast album. I was wondering if Julia and Robbie have good chemistry together.
PS: I appologize if this has already been talked about....I didn't feel like reading through all 43 pages
A lot of people say Laura (who we're not sure is actually with the cast anymore - nothing official has really been announced, but according to Variety...) and Stephen have very good chemistry, but a lot of people think Tina and Stephen have better chemistry. But either way, yes, Julia and Robbie have chemistry.
Stephen and Laura have UNBELIEVABLE chemistry, and no, I havnt actually SEEN them together, but let's just say I have a lot to go on (*cough*) :) haha. But seriously, even on the cd you can hear it- they're both entirely happy and comfortable to be performing together. Their chemistry is SO amazing actually that anyone else seems to pale in comparison, at least to me
(and yeah, stephen and tina are very very cute together too)
I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.
I might be a little biased, but I think Laura (who is still with the cast until anything official is announced otherwise, regardless of what a Variety article said - and by the way, I believe it said she has outs in September, and it's still August, so speculation there is kind of a moot point) and Stephen as Julia and Robbie have excellent chemistry. I've seen the show five times with Laura in and once with Tina, and I really do think that at least on stage, Stephen and Laura have better chemistry than Stephen and Tina. There wasn't really a contest. I could have seen an off performance (and I'd like to think I did) but I just wasn't impressed with the onstage relationship between the two of them. It's very clearly there with Laura and Stephen, but when Tina's on, I find the chemistry severely lacking. Though since Tina has had a good deal of performance time lately, one can only hope it has gotten better.
I thought I knew but now I know that rose trees never grow in New York City
Tina HAS improved so much. I saw her in June and then again last week. She's gotten so much better.

Tina and Stephen have great chemistry together. The entire cast always has a ball when Tina's on, which has been a lot lately.

Ok, I am going to try and give a coherent review of the show last night.
So, I am a huge fan of Kevin Kern and was really excited when I heard he was going on as Robbie earlier than planned. I was also excited when I saw that Tina was on again. I had seen Tina once before and did not like her at all, but wanted to give her a second chance because a lot of people rave about her - figured I saw her on an off night.
Kevin was incredible. He played it much different from Stephen at some parts - his Robbie was a lot sweeter and wholesome, to me, and it worked really well with Tina whose Julia is a lot softer than Laura's.
I really love Laura Benanti's take on the role and she does a lot of things in the show comedically that can't be beat, but Tina was much better this time around. Vocally, I don't think she is as strong as Laura, but her voice is pretty and her Julia is adorable and quirky and it works well for the character in a different way than Laura.
I think my favorite part of Kevin was his "Casualty of Love" which was hysterical and he rocked it out, vocally. It was really hard for me to imagine anyone but Stephen in the role just because I have seen Stephen so many times, but Kevin definitely stood his own ground and he was absolutely fantastic.
If I didn't know better, I would have thought Kevin had been doing this role forever and him and Tina were adorable together.
I also really enjoyed watching stage door because both Kevin and Tina are so incredibly gracious and sweet and it's always nice to see people really appreciate their fans.
If you have a chance, get out to TWS during Stephen's vacation and catch Kevin.

"I am totally and completely biased toward the Lynch/Benanti love"; "I really love Laura Benanti's take on the role and she does a lot of things in the show comedically that can't be beat"
ha ha, i deff afree with both of these statements!! i LOVE stephen and laura together! Its so perfect for their roles. and laura is absolutely adorable as julia! and ive heard good things about tina but havnt actually seen her in action. i did however see a video of the bryant park performance and, sorry to say, i didnt like the way tina and stephen sounded together. im sure its much better on stage and id prob love her if i saw her, but i doubt (after seeing the performance) shed match up to laura, at least for me.
but i agree that i would love to see a day of understudies, tina, kevin, nicolette, everyone. that would be great! it would be a completely different show tho.
and im glad to hear kevin did good and tina is getting better. any more reviews?
if i lived in nyc, id have many reviews for this show id be seeing it so much... just sent my letters out to Amy, Felicia, and Tracee, and included pictures for them to sign to make it easier for them, so...wish me luck! i hope they like my cartoons i drew of them...i wish i took pictures of them to show you guys, i have to admit, they were pretty cool! :)
so what kind of pics would you send them to sign because i didnt so to the stage door when i was there so i really dont have any pics of the cast but i would love them all the sign something. any recommendations?
Thespian Geek, you're going to be there too? Very cool! I'm sooo excited because I just got my shift at work completely covered today, so it should be a go.
How often do you fly back and forth to NY? It seems like you've gotten to see the show a lot already!

I've actually only seen the show once and that was back on April 1st, while it was still in previews. :-[ So I haven't even seen the finished product yet.
Umm.. I tend to be in NY every 3 or 4 months, somewhere around there. Though I'll actually be there twice within the next month. This upcoming trip next week and then again for a few days in September when Lynch is on vacation so I can see Kevin as Robbie. Updated On: 8/13/06 at 04:52 PM
I just feel that the main story...the love story is overshadowed by all of the side plots and the minor characters. They are much more entertaining and fun.
What do you mean by not standing out? She gives a performance which I believe is very good. She is a pro at everything she does in this show. You do not want to stand out too much or your just taking away from the show itself. You can't just put yourself out there and stand out. She blends with the rest of the cast, as does Kevin, which is the key to doing well in this show

Tina's PERFECT in the role. Sorry, I meant AWESOME. This is supposed to be the 80's! Haha

It was very nice for Laura to personally thank Tina.

Crap. I did copy that whole paragraph. I don't know where it went.
That was very nice of her to thank Tina.
