LuPone is done with Broadway

Now we know why she gave back her Equity Card:

While LuPone has found fame performing solo concerts of show tunes, theatre has remained her lifeblood. And now? "I love the stage but I'm taking a break from it. I'm tired. I'm tired of eight shows a week. I mean, if I go back, I'm gonna say it's not gonna be eight shows a week.

And I don't want to go back to Broadway. I love the West End. I would rather work in London theatre.

I would love to work at the National. I would love to work at the Almeida, the Donmar. I don't want to work on Broadway anymore because it's a circus."

Well Patti I’d love you to guest star with Bernadette in Old Friends….

Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

She said this after The Anarchist too.
...And then we got 2 more shows out of her.

They make a joke about her giving up her equity card in Titanique and it was one of the most hilarious bits.

#7

she said it after War Paint.

or was it DURING War Paint?

it's like Cher's final tour that keeps on going

If only she'd actually follow through. She's talented, but incredibly unpleasant in interviews and public appearances. She's exhausting.

Wait, so she doesn’t want to do an 8 show a week Broadway schedule but she does want to do an 8 show a week West End schedule? Make that make sense. She’s EXHAUSTING!

She seems to talk like she's burned the bridges of most NYC non-profits and wants to do work through London's.

Stop saying bad things about Patti LuPone. Just stop.

Why? She's a public figure and earns her living appearing before said public. Hence open to opinions.

It is a circus. I know it's fashionable here to hate on Patti, but let's not pretend there's much serious audience left.

All we need for closure is Randy Rainbow singing "LuPone is done with Broadway" to the tune of Give My Regards to Broadway.

LuPone is done with Broadway

Patti, while obviously a great performer over the years, has really shown the worst side of herself over the past decade. She does nothing to help charities, organizations or other actors. You see people like Bernadette and Stephanie J. Block helping everywhere they can, meanwhile Patti tells everyone to "figure it out" and she's not dealing with it. Please go away and just stop.

You don't know what she has or hasn't done for charity. Many people believe that charitable actions should be done anonymously.

Actually, as someone who knows and works with BCEFA and most of the other big Broadway charities and organizations, I can say with certainty that she has very rarely if ever helped out any of them. She just doesn't do any work helping others. I'm sorry that is hard for you to hear. It doesn't take away from her talent, just speaks to who she is as a person.
"

Do you mean she has never done anything like this?

Patti is wildly talented and incredibly charitable. She did a Zoom concert during the pandemic to help struggling theatres and always contributed her talent over the years.

That being said she is always insulting someone publicly. I experience her as crass and mean-spirited. She seems highly insecure and it’s like Psych 101 when I see her antics. I feel embarrassed for her. You can be truthful and outspoken without being belligerent.

^ THIS. I love Patti LuPone, and think she is a great performer, but her negativity recently has been exhausting to say the least.

LuPone is done with Broadway

Saw Patti Lupone in concert last night at Stanford University in California. Wrote something longer, but the page refreshed & I lost it.

She was very good. Afterwards many people leaving seemed quite ecstatic.

While the audience skewed older, I did see some who looked like students at the school. They were seated in various places through the hall. One boy seated near me was waving at friends in other locations before the show started On the way out I passed him & his group of friends in the lobby and they were just grinning & raving about the show. Nice that they made a memory that will last them a lifetime. I'm sure they will speak of this night long after we are all gone.

Thanks! I enjoyed reading Oleksinski's review. Sounds like it was a fun night.

Now we'll wait for the Phantom of BwyWorld to turn up & tell us that the Post is a pro-Drump rag 😝
