Does anyone know how long Lucas Steele is scheduled to be in Great Comet?
I have way too many shows to see this year, but would love to do a trip to NYC for Comet next year in Spring and was wondering- and hoping- if Lucas Steele might still be in it then.
I'm assuming he's on a year-long contract (meaning he would leave in October/November this year), but he could extend. He's been playing the role on and off for years now so I'm not sure how likely that will be, though.

Well, there's no telling if the show itself will be playing then... have to see how the ticket sales go after Groban leaves.

Flip it the other way. What else are you seeing, and we can tell you what to skip to fit Comet in...
I don't think featured actor in a musical is one of the big races this year. I believe Lucas Steele is nearly guaranteed a Tony nomination, but I don't think he's a lock to win because he has Gavin Creel to contend with. I think those two are the front-runners, though.
Thanks for the info RestingOtter - I am going again in July (bringing my GF this time) and we're keen to catch both Lucas and Denee in Comet.
And I do think he's the favourite to win Best Supporting. Lucas does some pretty incredible things on the stage, between the high notes, the violin playing while dancing, the mannerism of Anatole... it's just lovely to watch
I think Creel is the one to beat but a nomination is likely. I could see them throwing it to him to give Great Comet something, though that may be in the design categories.

I don't think that Josh Groban really is the cause of ALL of the ticket sales. Even saying that he may be, with Oak coming into the show, I don't think this will really be a problem. He is fairly well-known after Hamilton. There's no reason as of now that Great Comet won't be open in November.
I've yet to see Creel in Dolly! (going in a few weeks), so I can't compare for this season, but Lucas Steele is giving one of my favorite Featured Actor performances ever. He's a knockout.
Oh you're funny. Hardly anyone outside of absolute Hamilton fandom knows him - it's a big fandom, but they are more likely to follow Phillipa Soo to watch Amelie than see Oak in a replacement role.
And yes, Josh isn't selling ALL the tickets, but he really is selling a significant portion of it. Something which will become extremely apparent come fall.
Caption: Every so often there was a rare moment of perfect balance when I soared above him.
I think everyone will be surprised when Josh Groban is nominated for featured role. His role is really not a lead and I don't know that the committee will nominate him for best actor in a leading role.
Hasn't the committee already ruled on it though???

Per the ruling with Groban's name above the title, he will be considered for Lead Actor.
