So can anyone reccommend any ballads that show off a male's range but aren't overdone?

Depends what your using it for...
REGARDING RANGE
"Role of a Lifetime" - Bare
"King of the World" - Songs for a New World
"Heaven on their Minds" - Jesus Christ Superstar
"Ah Miss" - Sweeney Todd
"Why" and/or "Sunday" - Tick Tick Boom
"Barret's Song" - Titanic
"Look At The Sky" - Urinetown
SAFE BETS
"All I Ask of You" - Phantom of the Opera
"Stars" - Les Miserables
"One Song Glory" - Rent
Bring Him Home - Les Mis
Come What May - Moulin Rouge
Those were the first that came to mind.
He said not overdone...
Love Can't Happen from Grand Hotel.
If you can pull that off, they'll love you.
It depends what type of production you're auditioning for. Community? HS? Regional? Pro?
community/regional, though a general idea of male ballads would be nice

"Soliloquy" from CAROUSEL is tried and true - and also gives you an opportunity to act the hell out of it.
I second Soliloquy. I would also suggest "If I Didn't Believe in You" from Last 5 Years.

"Younger Than Springtime" from SOUTH PACIFIC.
Is "If I Can't Love Her" from BatB overdone? I love that song...so beautiful.

"A World Without You" from Children of Eden
Anything from Les Mis, Phantom, Saigon, and Rodgers and Hammerstein are WAY overdone
If you're doing an audtion, don't bring anything from a Jason Robert Brown musical unless you're bringing your own accompanist. His songs are utterly beautiful, but they can be a bitch to play (much less sight read).
I think Radames' Letter from Aida is pretty good for an audition. Its not really difficult and can show off your singing skills as well as acting.

"What is it About her?" - Wild Party (Lippa)
---> What's the range for " A World Without You" from Children of Eden?
---> Also, is "Look at the Sky" from Urinetown written in the vocal book as a solo?

There are no rules in theatre generally. If I Didn't Believe in you is fine to bring in for auditions. It's not hard to play. As far as Ballads with Range I'd stay away from Younger than Springtime. EVERYONE sings that. Instead try something like STAY from Do I hear a Waltz. It tops off at a floaty B flat, but it has some meaty G's in there (so if you're a high tenor you can do it in your sleep). It has the classic sound of Golden age Broadway (rodgers) but the deep, specific lyrics that make it VERY easy to act well (sondheim).

"A Man Doesn't Know" from DAMN YANKEES. Pretty Song.
Soliloquy is the greatest musical piece written for an actor ever.
But Being Alive is great too!

Being Alive is WAAAAAAAY overdone.
And SOLILOQUY isn't?
Come on.
Ummm....Jazzy never said anything about SOLILOQUY...
Umm. I'm saying in general.
