Hi everyone! I am heading to NYC the last week of March 2025. I was looking up a show to bring my family to (2 adults, 1 adult daughter, 1 teen boy) and Maybe Happy Ending has piqued my curiosity. A few questions:
1. Any thoughts on a teen boy (16 yo) liking this show? My son is quiet and funny, so I'm thinking he could like it if it was a great show....although he would never pick a Rom-Com movie on his own so that makes me second guess.
2. For this show/theater, what seats would be recommended?
3. Since this is a newer show, what are the chances we would get a last-minute discounted ticket? Does that even exist for a new show? (I am very naive about shows on Broadway) Also, we will be there during our spring break. I am aware that spring break is different across the US, but I imagine there is some overlap and it might be a popular time in NY.
There are currently a few discount codes that can be used on Telecharge, the official ticket seller: HAPPYMAIL and HAPPYDTL. The promo works on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday shows through May. Tickets have to be purchased by February 9.
You want to be as close to the center sections in the orchestra or mezz as possible. Avoid the far sides.
It will depend when you want to go and how that particular show is selling. It's often available on TKTS, but not always. Yesterday's matinee was sold out, so it wasn't on TKTS.

Thanks so much! Do you think I should ask about my question about my 16 yo son in that thread, or just wait for someone to add feedback to this thread? I don't know the etiquette of this forum (only been here 1 other time).
FWIW, I wanted to see this for a modest amount of money, ended up buying $59 seats center balcony Row C and was quite pleased with the view. It was only the times when they come far downstage that the view was slightly problematic, but it didn't last for long. I do agree that center anywhere for this show is the way to go.

Note that the balcony is different from the mezzanine, and the mezzanine center section is maybe the best seating for this particular show (and less expensive than orchestra, particularly with the discount codes that someone provided - which you can use to purchase in advance). As for your 16-year-old…this isn’t a romantic comedy in the traditional sense, and there’s a lot he might enjoy, including some really impressive visuals and the robot characterizations. Can you give us an idea of other shows (or movies) that he likes? That might make it easier to predict whether he’d like this.

Thanks for the clarification on seating! He has only been to one musical - Stranger Things: The First Shadow. It was his favorite part of our London trip. TV shows he likes (obviously) Stranger Things, Lost, Seinfeld, The Office, Euphoria.
If your kids like Manga comics or Japanese anime movies they might like it. It's Korean not Japanese, but has a similar wistful feeling. It isn't a big splashy show with a big chorus doing dance numbers. But I enjoyed it more than something like The Great Gatsby which added big dance numbers for the Broadway adaptation. Are you looking for just one show to see? The Outsiders is probably pricier. I saw it at a matinee full of school groups. The kids beside me were all in Grade 7/8, had read the book, and all sat there riveted by the show. I didn't like a couple changes they made to the plot from the novel, but generally it was well done.
I haven’t seen Stranger Things yet but my understanding is that it’s a play, so it sounds like this would be his first real musical. And you could definitely do a lot worse for a teenager’s first musical than Maybe Happy Ending. I’d say go for it…at minimum there will be lots of cool staging and effects for him to look at. It’s really a beautiful little show.

Yeah...probably just one show. My daughter would be happy seeing many, but my pocketbook wouldn't. :) She mentioned The Outsiders and MJ. She had never heard of MHE, but is open to it. Thanks for the feedback!

Oh, true, of course! Appreciate the info! I also am a believer in introducing my kids to things they might not pick for themselves. Sometimes it turns out great, but otherwise still a good life experience (usually.....lol).
I don't get the pricing for this show at all. I see that first row Mezz has a warning about the railing blocking part of the show. Front Mezz is still $271. Seats B1 thru B7 (and the same on the opposite side) are $135, and actually get more expensive the further to the side you go (B9 thru B21 are $196). And the seats right behind them (C1 thru C7) are $216, and get cheaper the further out you go (C9 thru C23 are $96). But there is no reason given. I assume it's because of the railing, but it doesn't say. And the seat across the aisle B101, is also $216, the same as C101. Why are those 4 seats in Rob B so much cheaper?
And in the Orchestra, Seat K101, house left aisle seat is $271, but K113, house right aisle seat, is $311. Why?
