What the hey? After recently sending a good number of people into unemployment, Miss Mullally figures that the world is ready for "Karen: The Musical". (hahahahahahah) Thoughts? from RC in Austin, Texas

P.S. Scroll down to the 8th segment on Page 2 of Perez Hilton.com.

Karen The Musical

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

"An Emmy winner for “Will & Grace,” Mullally also shared some details of her upcoming stage project Karen: The Musical, based on her acid-tongued performance as the boozy Karen Walker on the NBC series. Mullally reveals that the production will launch in Los Angeles and will be a touring show with Leslie Jordan (Off-Broadway’s My Trip Down the Pink Carpet) co-starring. Jordan appeared on “Will & Grace” as Karen’s rival, Beverley Leslie."

Sounds a lot like "Fame Becomes Me" with Karen. I hope she's good at improv!

I'll believe it when it starts previews and not a second before.

They've actually already started load-in at the Gershwin as we speak, as this show will be booting out Wicked. My sources tell me that the budget for giant prop tubs of I Can't Believe It's Not Butter is astronomical.

Will there be a stand-by? So many of the usual suspects would be just PERFECT as Karen. Cheno already has her special relationship with the gays and she loves to talk about her "hoo hah." Oh the comedy gold will be raining from the heavens.

I saw a recent TV interview where the interviewer noted that she plans to tour with the show "wherever there is a a large Wil & Grace fanbase." So maybe she has no Broadway plans for this. She'll probably hit the major markets.

There's something a little desperate about Mulally's inability to let this character go.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. you can't blame her for trying to keep a job. her 'go-with-flow' explanation sounds more like, "i'm just trying to make some money", but i'll definately be seeing this.

i can't really see this working without Sean Hayes though. Leslie Jordan is a good touch though.

All of her stand-ins should be men. This whole project has the same built-in problems as the Molly musical starring Kaye Ballard that floundered several decades ago. The success she had with the television show cannot be repeated unless Karen: tM surpasses the quality of W&G by a staggering margin. Not impossible, but c'mon....

She likes to work and pay the bills, as any actor does. I love how she added the "do a butter commercial" in her list of projects that "go with the flow."

If no one is slighting John Cameron Mitchell for returning to Hedwig then no one should be faulting Mullally for returning to Karen. It's a highly popular, fun character that put her on the map and won her many awards. She is Karen, so it's not like she is too old for the part any longer (ala the RENT "kids"). I say more power to her and lots of people would love to see this. It allows her the freedom to develop the character even more.

It would be pretty simple to surpass the quality of Will & Grace if you gave the right set of chimpanzees some word processors.

The only way I could see this working would be if it were a simple cabaret show a la Miss Gulch Returns. But I don't think Karen has that in her.

Karen does have that Pee-Wee Herman quality where I think she could continue on into something incredible and unbelievable but I think a few cabaret evenings at Joe's Pub is just fine. Then see where it goes.

If no one is slighting John Cameron Mitchell for returning to Hedwig then no one should be faulting Mullally for returning to Karen.

Except he created that character for a stage show that he wants to bring back to the stage. Someone else created this character for a tv show and every few years she mentions taking it to the stage. I don't see how they are similar at all.

Martin Short has dragged his previous TV characters, most notably Jiminy Glick, into every medium he can whenever he has. No one faults him for it. Let's see if she can pull this off!

And it's not as if the characters' creators have told her "Don't be Karen- Karen belongs to US!" It appears that she has been given a certain amount of ownership and autonomy over the character.

I'm curious about something. How ticked off are theatre people at M.M. for abruptly backing out of a show and causing its demise? Not only did she disappoint a lot of fans, but people lost their paychecks because of her. I don't see her hurting for $$$. She has those "Will and Grace" residuals, after all. I was always under the impression that she didn't want to go back to her "Karen" character. By the way, who owns the character of "Karen"? Is it NBC or the production company? Yes, I agree with BorstalBoy that M.M.'s decision to musicalize "Karen" reeks of desperation. Personally, I wouldn't pay $$ to see her in a show, after she pulled out of "Lips Together, Teeth Apart". That's all. from RC in Austin, Texas
