Distant dimensions would implode, the fabric of time itself would quiver, humanity would be forever changed on a molecular level.

Since it seems to be having a renaissance...Amadeus. I would pay big money for a Meryl Streep Saliari.

Same Time, Next Year for the two of them.
She'd be a great Grandma Kurnitz in Lost In Yonkers.

Would love to see them as Mary and Mary's Husband. And with absolutely zero acknowledgment they're 30-40 yrs older than the rest of the characters/cast. (insane and will never happen... can you imagine the ticket prices?)

Prepared to spend an obscene amount of money should this come to fruition.

This was the first show I thought of as well, especially since I wasn’t able to see the short lived Laurie Metcalf version.

They're a bit long in the tooth for it but, my goodness. What an event that would be.

That's why I hesitated suggesting it, myself. I just hope it's a show where they both can just go at each other, I know Martin Short is a comedic actor, but I have a feeling he can hold his own in a serious/dramatic role.

Has Short ever done a dramatic role? I feel like he would be phenomenal in the right dramatic part.

Looks like we were typing at the same time, I'd like to think "great minds think alike!" :)

My mind keeps going to "Private Lives".
I saw it years ago in Philly with Taylor & Burton. I just wanted to see them live. The play itself was OK but their real life relationship "elevated" it a bit. It is a comedy and I think Streep and Short would be good in it. Their names would probably sell tickets. I don't know that it would be possible to do but some tweaks to the book (Updating maybe?) may make it a bit better for audiences today. Just my thoughts.

They announced a Private Lives revival for 2027 months ago and I always assumed they had stars for the roles and were working around their schedules but if not, you're onto something!

Ok, I thought I was going crazy! I do remember something about a revival and actually thought it may have happened and I just missed it so didn't mention it in my post! Thanks for confirming that!

Aren't the characters in Private Lives in their thirties? I'm not saying it can't be done older (many fifty-something duos have done it) but I think a pair of people in their seventies is too old. The Gin Game or something new in a similar vein would be wonderful with them.

I calculated that Taylor was around 51 and Burton was around 58 when they did it. From what I remember, I think this can be done with an older couple. Especially these two.
We just had a revival of "The Gin Game" in 2015 with Cicely Tyson and James Earl Jones. Not to say they can't do it again. I would rather see Short and Streep in "Private Lives" if they do a revival. JMO

I saw that production of The Gin Game. Streep and Short deserve a better vehicle for their talents than that creaky, sentimental play (as did Jones and Tyson).

Dance of Death. We haven’t had a revival in ages and what perfect parts for these two.

I feel like I can see Short doing the compulsive dancing with those famous spastic dance moves he's used in so many of his characters... but even though it's the same schtick, it becomes unsettling here.

I think they could pull it off. I just don't think we need a revival of it now. The play was fine but, of course it was the star power onstage. I was second row center at the first preview. They flubbed lines and it was quite cute. I wanted to go back after they settled into it but didn't have the chance. I found it to be a decent play but not what I expected. I had never seen a production of it before that one. JMO
