During press for The Devil Wears Prada 2 Meryl was asked by Andy Cohen if she'd ever return to Broadway, and she said "I would love to... I was talking to Marty Short about that. We were thinking that would be fun to do".

They would likely need an original vehicle. At their age, they have basically just ON GOLDEN POND, THE GIN GAME, and DRIVING MISS DAISY - all of which seem a bit beneath Streep’s stature.
ARSENIC AND OLD LACE could be a hoot if Marty wants to drag it up, but that feels more like a gimmick than anything else.
Going back to the idea of an original vehicle - it would be a prime opportunity to get a new play/playwright on the map and possibly expand the canon.

I'd love to see some fusion of the Patti and Mandy show with Patrick Page's "All the Devils Are Here." Something like... "Meryl and Marty and Bill," where they do scenes and songs from Shakespeare, interspersed with just being their own charming selves.
She can be devastating, he can be the greatest clown of his generation, but they can also invert expectations: she can be fun, and he can be a better dramatic actor than his sidekick job lets him be. Maybe add a rotating third player guest star.

The Gin Game could be interesting, but I don't necessarily think I see Martin Short as Weller Martin. The man may just be too sweet to read as curmdgeonly.
Maybe they could do something like what KellyyRose Byrne and Kelli O'Hara with Fallen Angels or Josh Gad and Andrew Rannels did with Gutenberg! - use their star power to bring attention to a lesser-known work.

When I listen to this cast album…every once in a while…it makes me crazily nostalgic. I remember my parents, and a lot of their friends, etc, had either the album with Mary Martin and Robert Preston…or had the song, “My Cup Runneth Over” (was all over the radio) as it was a hit by, I think, Ed Ames.
Looking back, it was neighbors having beers or gin and tonics in the back yard as my dad BBQ’d and mom was the perfect hostess. Simpler times, at least as a kid.
Mary, Robert, Ed, Mom, Dad and all those neighbors are gone now.
That is all.
