Somewhere in Defying Gravity is 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow.'
You know it and you want it... you just can't believe you've got it.

The first seven notes of the "Unlimited" theme (unlimited/together [we're unlimited]...) correspond to "Somewhere/Over the rainbow..." The rhythm is altered, but the melody is the same.

Derek - the Jitterbug number was actually choreographed and partially filmed for the Garland movie - but it was cut.

In Wonderful he says "It might be keen to build a town of green and a wonderful road of yellow brick" In the show it's self, there are constant reverences to 'The Wizard of Oz' like "What's in the punch?" "Lemons, Melons, and Pears" "Oh my!" and "Elphaba what are you doing here!?!" "Well, there's no place like home!" Also, in the Wizard and I, she says "I'd be so happy I could melt" and "Someday they'll be a celebration through out Oz that's all to do with me!!" (hint: her "death" was a huge celebration) And I don't know what Broadwaystar2b was saying for sure but it sounded like you were insulting Wicked! Wicked is only the best musical that's ever existed, so in other words, Don't make fun of it!!!
Thus is how the book of man and woman shall be written endlessly crashing into each other like 2 vengeful bumper cars - I Love You You're Perfect Now Change

If those are "secrets" then someone wasn't awake during the show... I think people are seeking hidden melodies, not obvious refrences to the origional story line. :-P

darling, those aren't musical secrets...they're exactly what you called them. references.
Idina: Somehow I got myself to the stage, came out at the end of the show, and I had some kind of closure.
Some guy: You looked great!
Idina: Thanks...I WAS SO HIGH! 8/21/05

You mean there's no hidden melody or backmasking that says "most overrated musical/actress ever"?

that's harsh, I don't think either of them are the most overrated at all...yes they get their share of praise but at least they're talented...

Y'know... the show is good. It's not the best show I've ever seen, but it's DEFINATELY not even close to the worst... I need to stop looking at the Wicked threads... people who discredit a quality show piss me off...

Caroline or Change is something you'd call a "quality show", not Wicked. Wicked is an overrated piece of fluff that a bunch of misguided teens have latched on to. That's it. It's not terrible but it's far from the second coming it's made out to be. And it's no where near as good as the book it's based on.

you know some of these "mislead teens" do know good theatre...to say you personally don't like it is fine, I wouldn't have a problem with that...it's when people say things like:
"Wicked is an overrated piece of fluff that a bunch of misguided teens have latched on to."
That makes me think two things of you, you're old, and you're ignorant.

There is no need for me to tell my opinion on WICKED, it doesnt matter. I just dont understand why people must bitch and moan about it when people talk about it! My god, let people have seperate opinions. Some people didnt like Caroline... (im not one of them so dont attack me)...if you see "WICKED" or "Idina" or "Cheno" DONT READ IT!!!
Have a nice day! :)

I think its only very popular now because there really isnt too much out there. Also I hate when people say "Its a bad show", "Its not a quality show"...it's like they're writing it in stone. Some people think it is. Lets just keep to opinions k?...anywho.....however I do think this show/Avenue Q and Caroline will be remembered in 20 years from now.

Dear Wicked Bashers,
Hello, my name is Jessica...and I am a fan of Wicked. I am sixteen years old and very into theatre. I attend Camp Broadway and have a collection of nearly 200 Broadway cast recordings. I saw Wicked in November and once again in August and completely fell in love with it.
This past trip in August, I saw a variety of shows...Caroline or Change, Here Lies Jenny, The Frogs...and a few more- the best by far of which was Caroline, or Change. A few days after Caroline, or Change- I saw Wicked for the second time...and was blown away once again.
Currently in my CD player are...Wicked- in the car, and Caroline or Change- in my room.
Thank you for reading and I hope you do not continue making ridiculous stereotypes of theatre/Wicked- loving teenagers.

David walked into the valley
With a stone clutched in his hand
He was only a boy
But he knew someone must take a stand
There will always be a valley
Always mountains one must scale
There will always be perilous waters
Which someone must sail

I'm also tired of Wicked being bashed. I am not a teen, I am an educated woman who thoroughly enjoyed the show. My husband also loved it, as did my in laws and other friends who saw the show, some because of our glowing recommendation. In the crazy world we live in today, it was a wonderful and refreshing three or so hours of quality theater and escape from reality.
I'm thrilled that people of all ages enjoyed the show; it's a great gateway to the wonderful world of theater.
