No one seems to care about this one. I am absolutely surprised at how good the reviews have been, given the limited feedback on this board...’the most boring thing I have ever seen’, etc. since I am a huge Laura Linney fan, I am halal that her reviews have been strong.

The New York Times is pretty much a rave review, and a bouquet of roses for Laura Linney.

I'm really surprised how well this is selling.  Was holding out for TDF, but never appeared to my knowledge.  Went to get a ticket and hard to find decent seats.  Ended up buying a mid-level mezz for its current closing night - house manager indicated it might extend one week.

I'm surprised as well. I can't imagine it will.appear on tdf but hope I'm wrong

Mr. Musto, I read your review in which you described solo plays as often having "contrivances." What does that word mean in a theatrical context?

Anybody can answer this for me, by the by.

I too was hoping that this would show up on TDF but no such luck.  I finally bit the bullet today and purchased a seat for late February in the mezzanine.  There's not much left.  It is sickening that they have premium $299 weeknight seats in row P and Q.

I caught this the other night and thought it was dreadful. A waste of time and Laura Linney’s talent. A total snoozefest.

I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone, unless you love overly saccharine Lifetime/Hallmark movies or find rhapsodic descriptions of fields and sunlight profound.

AGREED. Easily one of the biggest let downs of the season so far.

I completely agree with the negative reviews above.  As awful as this is, this is the first broadway show I actually fell asleep in (yes, I'm very embarrassed of it).  It was just so boring.

That's too bad. Well, I guess at least I shouldn't be as disappointed that I can't seem to click quickly enough to catch rush tickets. I swear though, I have tried multiple times and click right at 10:00 and they're always sold out immediately

I adore Laura Linney, but even watching Broadway.com’s “Show Clips” from this bored the hell out of me.

I actually was incredibly moved by the play, moreso than I expected. Linney's performance is marvelous, as always. I had read the book last year and enjoyed it, but I think this hit me at a really sensitive and appropriate point in my life, as I am leaning VERY heavily on my mother at the moment. I was in tears leaving the theater and on my way home, and actually sent Linney a gushing fan letter, thanking her for sharing this performance and story with us.

I would pay to see Laura Linney read the phone book for 90 minutes so I was going to see this regardless. While it was a pleasure watching her command the stage and there were some meaningful and poignant underlying messages, I felt my mind wandering frequently during the stories and frankly, the whole narrative just wasn't that compelling.

This play was kinda all over the place to me. There were some moments of brilliance, but it didn't add up to much to me. Linney was marvelous given the material, but there were a lot of threads I feel were not tied up. Plus, when you throw in a 9/11 analogy within the last 10 minutes... like, why add more? There's plenty to work with already.

Almost entirely unrelated, but the coughing last night in the theater was outrageous. Full, lungs about to fall out, constant coughing from everywhere in the theater. It really took me out of the headspace. I'm convinced that everyone at the Friedman last night now has Coronavirus -- myself included. So if I don't post for a while, I've been quarantined.

Saw today. I kept thinking that Linney was not the actress for this (I adore her BTW). Someone like a younger Kathleen Chalfant or Christine Ebersole. Edgier.

Saw it last night and while Linney is good, I just don't get the love for the play itself. It's just story after story, and admittedly I dozed off a fair amount in the middle 30 minutes. She comes alive as the Lucy's mother, but as Lucy, I just really didn't care as much. I don't blame Linney, I think it's that they didn't fill the show out with an actual cast. Maybe if we actually saw the husband, the childless friend, the kids, the doctor, the friend from the stoop, the AIDS patient, her siblings? Really any combination of these would've been more than welcome. Lucy herself, I just wanted to keep saying, get over it already.
