Patrick Wilson would have put the audience to sleep.
Brilliant casting!
Neil Patrick Harris's "Finishing the Hat" from the Wall-to-Wall Sondheim in 2006 was a revelation. He will sing one hell of a "Being Alive."
I'm surprised about all the NPH hating. I can't wait to see him takle this. As much as I adore Patti I couldn't stomach her Ladies Who Lunch. I was going to suggest Donna Murphy but you've sold me on Vdub. What a great casting suggestion!

We get it. You hate him.
Donna Murphy will be busy starring in "The People in the Picture."
You can listen to his 'Finishing the Hat' on the Symphony Space website - http://www.symphonyspace.org/live/sondheim_1
^ His voice still sounds thin and bland there. He's a charming guy, and I think that will work in his favor for this role.
I would love to see Sara ramirez in this. Maybe as Marta? My dream Amy is Laura benanti.
And one for the never gonna happen in a million years file... Barbara Streisand as Joann
My friend brought up Megan mullally as Joann. But I'd rather see her do something a little more against type like Sarah
My choice for Marta would be Nicole Scherzinger.
^ You may be onto something there. She certainly has the range for "Another Hundred People."
I don't think NPH has the ideal voice for the score, but I do think he'll bring all of the right colors and depth to who Bobby is, which with this show, is most important. Patrick Wilson, as much as I love him, is the exact opposite scenario to me. He'd sing the hell out of that score, but he's not a Bobby to me.
I actually like the idea of Megan Mullally as Sarah. I don't think that's too out-there.
My next suggestion: Jessica Goldyn as Kathy.
And I could see Mullally as Sarah.
Oooh! I wonder if they'll keep Tick Tock? That would be intriguing.
You can make an argument that it's not "necessary," but I think just by virtue of having the score played by the Phil, they should include it. The more music, the better!

My issues with NPH have less to do with talent than the preening self-love he seems to have developed over the past few years. Too enamored of his own wonderfulness.
The NY Philharmonic and Avery Fisher Hall are both way too big for this score, unless they reduce the number of players to the size of a theatre orchestra and do it in a smaller venue, like Alice Tully. Otherwise, it'll be a lumbering, echoing, graceless behemoth.
I think the article said it would be a 35 piece orchestra.
Twice the size of the original pit.
A friend of mine sent me this news earlier today and I've been bouncing off the walls like a 5-year old on crack ever since.
I've often thought NPH would be great as Bobby, never expected it would really happen. It's a Christmas miracle
April can't come soon enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NPH is literally my dream casting for Bobby. If there were a movie made today, I was hoping he'd star in it, but I'll take this for sure, especially if it's filmed!
Any idea when tickets go on sale and how much they will be?
"Single tickets for these performances start at $65, and go on sale for the general public on Dec. 17 at 10 AM. "

I don't know if I think it'll be a lumbering, echoing, graceless behemoth, but I didn't initially think Company was the Sondheim show that needs or fits with the full orchestra/concert idea. I'd like to see Into the Woods in concert with the NY Phil, personally.
That being said, I don't know how I feel about NPH.
The Philharmonic's website says this will feature an "all-star cast." Can't wait to see who they get! I assume Patti will be Joanne. She worked with NPH on Sweeney Todd, also directed by Price.

If you are a donor to the Philharmonic or a friend of Lincoln Center, tickets are on sale now. I just bought tickets to the Friday performance.
