It’s been reported that Hannah will return at the end of the month after taking time off to recover from laryngitis. So I assume either the 23 or 30 she’ll be back in Green.
I don't know but it has been well over a month now since Hannah's been out. At what point does production say something? Or at least list Jenny as lead so people buying tickets aren't thinking they're going to get to see Hannah. They're handling this poorly.

No, they’re not handling it poorly. Legally, through Actors Equity union, there are protocols in place for how to handle actor sickness. In order to list Jenny as lead, multiple contracts would need to be effected. It’s 100% a legal issue, not a personal one. Because Hannah is contracted as lead, and on sick leave, there are legalities in place that protect her contract.
Also, Wicked on Broadway has never been transparent with Elphabas - most only do 7 shows a week, and they have understudies and standbys swing in and out constantly. Not up to to them to broadcast that info
Also, out of the 14,000 people that saw Wicked on broadway last week, maybe a couple dozen went just for Hannah.

Of course she's not back. In fact, I think we've now reached the point where she's been out for more of her run than she's actually been in. Sorry you were misled (by very poor management of this disaster) when buying your tickets that you'd actually have a shot at seeing her.

I bought the tickets month ago, knowing anything could happen. It’s not like I’m seeing a dud of a show. I was just a fan of her Yitzhak and knew I had a friend coming to town. There are bigger things going on in the world.

As a fan this is disappointing. Rightfully so, a huge deal was made when Wicked brought in a brand new actor to play Elphaba on Broadway. After all the publicity said actor disappears after playing the lead for 6 weeks? I believe they do owe fans an announcement of when she’ll return. This is misleading to the fans who support Wicked. Does anyone know how long Jenny Dinoía will be the standby?

Jenny is contracted as the standby until at least winter, but knowing her she will probably try to extend as much as possible (she loves this job!). Emily Rogers is the actual standby at this point because Jenny is going on so consistently and they have brought in an additional cover (Carla Stickler) to perform in her ensemble track.
I have to admit, having Jenny do most of the shows is kind of questionable, as she seemed to really struggle in the role vocally at the end of her last contract.
This is all a bit... odd. When Caroline Bowman missed for an extended amount of time, it was known that it was due to some sort of injury and Christine came in as a temporary replacement. Alison was out for a bit on tour I believe and Dee temporarily replaced. All this to say that Hannah certainly isn’t the first Elphaba to miss a substantial chunk of performances, but something about this just seems off. This reads more like the Caissie Levy Wicked LA situation where nothing was said said for weeks and then she was fired.
I certainly hope she returns, and my greater hope is that she is well and that this isn’t a more serious issue ala Benanti in Into the Woods.

Sorry, I really resent the whole “relax” thing. It’s very condescending. No one is up in arms. It’s great that you’re privy to her return date, but people can’t help what they don’t know. No matter what the circumstance may be, it is out of the norm to miss several weeks of performances.
It’s a Broadway forum, this is the space for these topics.
With that being said, yay! I’m glad she’s feeling better. That’s awesome.

People in these comments are freaking out. Like someone said earlier, Hannah’s absence/having Jenny as lead would be a contract issue. Tbh wicked is awful with announcing things, they don’t let their understudies announce when they’re on, they have very strict social media policies for the actors, etc. But honestly, wicked owes nothing to us. We’re paying to see a show, not a person.

they dont owe us anything in terms of social media. Absolutely nothing. I’m sure there are social media clauses in contracts. We’ve become such an incredibly entitled society that we think now it’s our right to know via social media? Uh, no. We by a ticket, we find out everything at the theater. We need to step back with this thinking we deserve to know everything because we literally don’t.

Has the tour cast started rehearsals yet?
I can’t imagine her contract is that air tight and exclusive that she wouldn’t be allowed to fill in for a few weeks earlier this month

Ginna Claire and Mary Kate are a perfect pair of witches, double name witches :) If only they’d known Hannah would be out this would have been great for the show and fans who want to see they on Broadway. As mentioned MK is getting ready to leave for Mean Girls tour.

I certainly hope she is well too. I guess we will know if she’s returned or not tonight. Fingers crossed she’s is!

Caissie Levy was fired from the LA Production? What's the T behind this? Never heard this before.

There’s not really any T. At that stage in her career she couldn’t sustain the role vocally and missed several performances so she was ultimately let go. Her standby Teal Wicks filled in for most of the performances and then became lead. It should be noted that Caissie was one of the youngest Elphabas then and has sustained multiple rigorous scores since. To my knowledge that was her first lead role in a production of that caliber. Nothing shameful or juicy.
