Very much looking forward to the release of a new Gypsy with Audra. Any news on a release date? I have heard nothing.

You’re in profound danger.
Ummm it's actually a cast rec-

And yet your subject line infers otherwise...might want to add a question mark to the end.

I don't understand the vitriol I seem to be receiving after asking a simple question. I loved Gypsy- and loved hearing Audra sing those songs. Is that a crime? Audra- and the whole cast- were incredible- and the show was one of my all-time favorites. Audra sang the heck out of that score- and if I lived in NYC- I would go back just to hear her sing it again. I was in row 1- center- with a friend- and we were both blown away. I see tons of shows- but this one was one of the best ever. LOVED it.

I seem to recall Joy Woods posting from a recording studio sometime in December. Not sure if that had to do with Gypsy or not, but I’d reckon this revival will get a recording.

Oh, boy. I’m going to stop and save your life.
You referred to a cast recording as a soundtrack. This is a massive faux-pas in certain circles — including this one.
A soundtrack is reserved for film and television.
You’re asking about a cast recording.
Nit picky? Some might argue. But we’re aficionados and reserve the right to our standards.
You’ve essentially said good luck on opening night, asked for ketchup on a hot dog in Chicago, referred to San Francisco as Frisco, referred to the Scottish play by its actual title, or chosen the wrong Wild Party!
That said, I’m with you! Audra’s performance in GYPSY is the most thrilling performance I’ve seen on Broadway in memory.

And just to pile on…
There are no “row 1”s. There’s row A (or AA in some theaters) and there’s also “first row”. There are also multiple sections with a “row 1”!
Reading some of the responses people have made you wonder why some consider Broadway for the elite.
To me it just comes across as condescending.

Apparently you didn’t REALLY read thru all of your Broadway Nerd Handbook before signing your contract. The “cast recording” vs “soundtrack” section had to be signed AND initialed. That section was added to the handbook in 1943 after OKLAHOMA! opened on Broadway.

Sorry about that I am only up to 1941.

Hi- I did not know that cast recording and soundtrack were different- it really essentially is the same thing said with a different set of words. Now I am aware of the difference and will not make that mistake again. The lexicon changes and morphs and always good to be in the know. Anyway, as much as I loved Audra singing that score- and cant wait for the CAST RECORDING- if I had to vote- I would vote Nicole. I don't listen to the cast recording of Sunset Boulevard much- whereas I will probably listen to Gypsy scores of times at the gym- but what Nicole does in a live performance was astounding and thrilling. I highly recommend for anyone thinking about seeing either or both- for me- both were high points of my theater experience- which dates back to seeing Liza in Flora the Red Menace- one of my all-time faves- Barbra in FG- where she gave a lackluster performance in her next to last month on BWAY- and Angela Lansbury in MAME- another one of my all time faves- along with so many more current favorites. I see tons of shows- and come to NYC frequently to see family and attend shows- in April seeing Bobby Darrin musical- Ghosts- Glengarry, Goodbye and Good Luck- Dorian Grey- Oh Mary! and John Proctor- can't wait!

BWAY Baby2 - for the record, I was poking fun at theatre culture and not your post. :)

It really isn't. But I think what actually bugged people was that the title of this thread was not initially punctuated as a question but a statement, which had everyone rushing in to learn the latest news. And there wasn't any. Which, given this show and this star, was bound to result in...feelings.

As was I (though much less cleverly than you, TotallyEffed) - was not trying to discourage you or come across vitriolic, BwayBaby2! :) Promise. I was at the first preview for this production and I can't wait to go back/can't wait to wear out the recording. Happy you're excited about it too!!

Thank you all for such nice responses. I really did not realize I forgot to put a question mark- which made it seem like I had information- not asking for it. I will be more careful in the future. I really like how- when I corrected my error- people were very understanding. Thank you!
Audra's voice sounds like a tornado singing "Coming Up Roses" and "Rose's Turn" - and her intonations in "You'll Never Get Away From Me" almost sound iconic in a song that otherwise can be a throwaway moment musically. I thinks she by-far has the most powerful and complex vocals of all the Roses - if you listen to an audio of Patti's final performance her vocals sound thin in comparison to Audra's. It's crazy!
Maybe we can expect a drop of the album strategically timed to help Tony chances....at this point I also think they just need to start getting it out there as a marketing tool because Gypsy seems to be going the way of War Paint, Company, Follies etc. right now where after 12 weeks or so the core theatre audience starts to dry up and things slow down.
