Really? Why can't you believe it? He hasn't even yet been snubbed for a nomination.
But no, I don't think he has a chance to win. (And I really liked his performance.)
I have a feeling he'll be nominated. The show was not a hit but he gave a great performance with the material he had to work with.
Bertie Carvel
Rob McClure
Billy Porter
??????
I actually do think he'll be nominated. He won't win though. I think the nominations will be:
Bertie Carvel, Matilda
Brandon Victor Dixon, Motown: The Musical
Santino Fontana, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella
Rob McClure, Chaplin
Billy Porter, Kinky Boots
And I think if anyone misses a nomination, it'll be Brandon Victor Dixon whose notices were really nothing more than average. I would anticipate Anthony Warlow picking up the spot if he misses it. And all of this is assuming that Carvel and Porter are both ruled leading.
I certainly hope that he is nominated in a few weeks. He was fastastic in "Chaplin."
I do think he has a good chance of a nomination. (to spite my earlier snarky comment)

Guess I'm missing something, but I thought Carvel was going to be considered Best Supporting Actor in a Musical -- I haven't seen Matilda, so I have no way of knowing how he should be categorized.
I wouldn't count out Anthony Warlow.
I think Jim Norton will get a nomination as well.
If Bertie Carvel gets put into featured, the nominees should be:
Jim Norton, The Mystery of Edwin Drood
Anthony Warlow, Annie
Rob McClure, Chaplin
Billy Porter, Kinky Boots
Santino Fontana, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella

Anthony Warlow will be nominated. Billy Porter will win.. Rob will be nominated as well. mark it.
Porter's character struck me as Featured in Kinky Boots - it's showy and all, but the show is about Stark Sands' character, not Porter's.
But I'd say the same thing about Carvel in Matilda.

I doubt Rob will win since Chaplin closed in January, but I bet he'll be nominated. Adored his performance in Chaplin, and it is totally worth a Tony nomination.
I think Bertie will be placed in Featured.
I think the nominees for Lead Actor will be
Anthony Warlow
Billy Porter
Stark Sands
Santino Fontana
and then either Rob McClure or Jim Norton for the 5th slot.
I think Billy Porter will win the award, and possibly be the only winner for Kinky Boots, much like Norbert won the only award for Catch Me two years ago.

Jim Norton gave one of the most gloriously clever and entertaining performances I have ever seen. I do hope he is nominated, with a good chance of winning.
I loved Norton's performance too and hope he is nominated. I was going with what I think will happen, not what I necessarily want to happen.
I really hope Norton gets nominated too.
My guesses at the moment, however, are Sands, Porter, McClure, Fontana, and Dixon.
That's assuming Carvel will be considered featured.
And hold up everybody!!
How could we all have forgotten about Matthew James Thomas?!
He'll certainly be nominated for Pippin. In light of that I will alter my predictions:
Anthony Warlow
Billy Porter
Stark Sands
Matthew James Thomas
Last spot Norton, Fontana or McClure. Really McClure isn't guaranteed a nomination at all.
I doubt that both Sands and Porter will be in leading category -- and if they are, I doubt they will both catch a nom.
But yes....Matthew James Thomas should not be out of the running. (I thought I brought that up earlier....hmmmm...I wonder what happened to that post?)
Even though people's reactions to CHAPLIN as a show were mixed, his performance was singled out by most everyone as being truly special which I think will help him get that nomination.

I hope he gets nominated. He was great in Chaplin. It probably won't happen though because Chaplin opened in the beginning of the season and has already closed.

I saw Mr. McClure in Chaplin. He was good. I wasn't blown away by either his performance, or Chaplin as a whole. Actually, I thought Chaplin a bore.
How could we all have forgotten about Matthew James Thomas?!
I actually didn't forget him. I think he's going to have to get rave reviews if he wants a nomination. As much as I loved Pippin, I couldn't help but feel as though he was completely overshadowed by the supporting players, Patina, the direction, and the acrobatics.
As much as I would LOVE Jim Norton to be nominated, I don't see it happening. If he wasn't nominated for Finnian's a few years back after his show closed early, I doubt he'll be nominated for this, which is a smaller and less showy part.
