Saw the show four times in Chicago. Brilliant, emotional, perfect. The first time I saw it, I called a Tony for Maryann Plunkett. The rest of the cast shined too, all the way down to minor parts, including Andrea Burns. Can’t wait for NY to experience this.

Really? That's a pretty limited view and insulting to all the other creatives working on bring in new shows. And don't count your chickens. The graveyard of Broadway is littered with shows with great buzz that opened in NY with a thud.

I wonder if this is the type of show that will need some big name stars to succeed? Although I kind of think that about all new Broadway shows now lol!
Isn’t Sara Bareilles friends with Ingrid Michaelson? I wonder if she’d be a possibility to star.
I think that the film is famous enough on its own, but should it be a hit, great potential for star casting down the line a la Moulin Rouge and Hadestown to a degree.

Those who are not Swifties most likely would not be attracted to this show or attend it.
It's not like the marquee will say 'Taylor Swift presents 'The notebook' LOL
I don't think most of her fandom are Broadway lovers tbh. I mean we had 'Cats; as an example and she even was part of it but we know how that turned out

Mmm, I'd say if any pop star has audience crossover with Broadway it's her. Her fans are rabid for her to write a musical. I do think her being a producer would move the box office, IF, she really pushes it. The only time I really recall her pushing hard for a movie she was in, was Cats. Everything else has been a glorified cameo and treated as such during the press run.
Really I think most major pop stars could move the box office as producers it just becomes a situation of how do you actively promote their involvement. To me it only works if they're out there with the cast promoting it but that's obviously sooooo much work. As we've seen multiple times, simply slapping a big name above the title or doing a press release about their involvement doesn't really move the needle.

There isn’t really a good role in this that would work for Sara, maybe the Andrea Burns part.

Yaaaaaaawwn. Never cared to see the film, not interested in a musical. For those of you enamored if it, I hope you enjoy!
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I’m happy to see so many people feeling positive about the announcement.I love Ingrid and her music. Everyone I knew who saw the show felt it was mediocre at best. Most felt that all the songs sounded alike. Some felt it was very boring. None of them would have recommended the show.
I can’t see Taylor putting her name on this. Taylor seems VERY conservative about endorsements of other people’s work. Also if she wants to do her own musical, I can’t see her wanting her name attached to other ones. I think she is the only artist currently who would sell out a run of her own musical a year out. If it’s her own music, her musical would have an enormous advance. She’s critic proof.
I am huge Ingrid fan, but her star has cooled significantly over the last few years. She used to be very prolific in her songwriting, toured extensively and was very active on social media. Since getting into a relationship with Will she’s been more subdued and rarely tours. I felt like she was going places as a performer but seemed to step back while Bareilles launched into the stratosphere.
It will be interesting to see where this goes. I don’t think the Notebook is a hot enough property to sell wildly on its name alone. Plenty of what seemed to be hot properties never sell tickets.

After many years of hearing about THE NOTEBOOK movie, I finally watched it this year. It’s a nice Lifetime movie sort of thing, but I can’t see how this could become a big successful Broadway musical. BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY-lite, maybe?

Funny considering it'll also be at the Schoenfeld.
But the score isn’t as lush and the book of the show is a bit muddled. I liked having the 3 different generations but I also don’t think it really added anything.

I had that same thought about Bridges - but at least that had that absolutely stunning score going for it.
I couldn't disagree more. This movie has a much larger fan base, or more contemporary fan base, with a pop flavored score....I see this being more in the Once camp than the Bridges camp. Bridges was way too big for the story they were telling.

How many people, that you knew, went to see this? The Chicago production thread doesn’t really paint this picture and most of the professional reviews of it are positive.

I’m curious to see what they’ve changed. The whole thing comes across as a downer and not sure the score or staging overcome the Lifetime movie of it all.
I personally thought it was more than mediocre and the staging and music was beautiful.

I’m a fan of the movie and a fan of Ingrid Michaelson, but them together makes me nervous. I don’t want a musical of maudlin ballads (which is why I think Bridges failed even though some of the songs were beautiful). Can anyone speak to the music? Are there some upbeat 30s/40s-type tunes a la “Minnie the Moocher” or is it all one big emotional tear-fest?
I wouldn't say it's all ballads, but I honestly couldn't hum a single song months later. None of it was bad in the moment, but it wasn't really a stand out either? And the staging was so dark it didn't feel like any specific time or place. But hey it might all be different now.

I didn’t know music having to be hummable was a prerequisite to being a good musical.
Personally, I know I’ve been stuck with the “I wanna go back” melody. That line of music was breathtaking.
