PM QUESTION!

This is insane and intrusive. If someone doesn’t have a Facebook, they have to send a photo of a license where you get their address, organ donor status, and other key information? That’s insanity.
I hope that whatever happened last night was truly bad enough to warrant absolutely destroying the community here. And the Adsense money that you probably got from people visiting.

Some of it was bad, but none of it was worth all the fuss it's caused.

Posted: 12/10/18 at 9:23pmAs the self proclaimed resident child on these boards I’m gonna just say that even I can’t agree with this. This is invasive and just awful. Please just remove the trolls, my PMs are very important to me trying to buy stuff off people as stupid as that sounds, yet I can’t have a Facebook. There is also no way in H-E double hockey stick I’m giving you my ID. I don’t understand why from what I can see a cirtain Disney princess got her feelings hurt and now we have to suffer. I liked (redacted) as a person but this is way too far! Why am I being punished?

Hi all. More tech savvy Moderator here! We've heard your concerns re user privacy.
At this time there is no plan to make any of the info we collect via Facebook for user authentication public in any way whatsoever - if the board ever implements a rule like that it'd be a separate opt-in process. But again, that's not the plan or goal. It's our way of filtering out users with multiple accounts violating our rules.
With that said, in the morning we'll have our dev team remove restrictions on PMs for existing users. We may still require some users who have had suspensions to verify their identity for security reasons.
We want all our long time users to have the best possible experience on BWW. We apologize for some of the confusion as we figure out the best way to make that happen. We'll continue to keep you updated.
Thanks!

And why don't you have a name when you post?"
exactly this.
this stuff is bonkerballs.

What security reasons could possibly require their personal identity to unsuspend them? That's still pretty unacceptable. Is there any particular reason you would need their identity beyond holding it over their head?
Most forums just do a temporary suspension or an infraction point system which keeps users in line and their personal information secure.

Posted: 12/10/18 at 10:15pmAs someone who already used my FB info to be able to send PMs, I trust that a) my info will not be made available to other users (including my name/FB login or anything of the sort) and b) more importantly, that you will be complying with all applicable data privacy laws regarding handling of such information you are collecting.

Posted: 12/10/18 at 11:32pmYeah, sorry mods, but I can’t get onboard with this one. I don’t understand what you guys would possibly need with the personal info of people who were suspended, especially if you say you aren’t going to do anything with it anyway.
#35PM QUESTION!
Posted: 12/10/18 at 11:37pmI think they’re hoping that if people are not completely anonymous (at least to the mods) they’ll conduct themselves with more decorum on here. A tall order for some for sure.
#36PM QUESTION!
Posted: 12/10/18 at 11:45pmI guess my question is why would it matter if there’s no threat of anything being done with said private info? I’m not saying I want users to be doxxed, quite the opposite, actually, but would someone’s real name being privately attached to their account really weigh in how they decide to conduct themselves on this board if they know that no one besides the mods will find out who they are anyways? It just feels a little sketchy to say, “We want your personal info to make sure you don’t act out of line again, but don’t worry! We won’t do anything with it!”
#37PM QUESTION!
Posted: 12/10/18 at 11:49pmI understand the concern. Personally, I don’t have a problem with it. I’ve already linked my Facebook account. One day in the future, I may look back and regret it, but not now. Of course, I don’t feel like I’ve conducted myself on here in a way that causes me concern.

Last night had nothing to do with doxxing or anyone's identities being exposed, this is just a shameless tactic from the moderators to get the personal identities of "problem" users for whatever intention they have. If they claim they aren't doing anything with it, why do they need it in the first place?

I don't know what doxxing is.
From what I am reading, things went too far in some way.
Fetus, we do not work in th BWW offices so you don't know what tbis has to do with. They have not told us everytbing.
And they may not be doing anything with it except keeping tabs on who is paying here and making sure thingslike last night don't happen again.
And with that said. I hope that after whatever is going on is settled, BWW can tell us why all of this is happening. No need to name names but lay out the truth to us.

Doxxing is the act of exposing someone's personal information online. Truth be told, some of the comments last night did go too far, but not nearly at the level I've seen on this forum in my 8 years of lurking.
Obviously I do not work at BWW so I do not know everything about the current situation on their end, my primary concern is the request of personal information because of a lack of transparency on why it is even necessary. If they are using someones personal information as a way to "keep tabs" on certain users then that is very questionable and problematic what they would use their personal information for.

And if you truly value your privacy, you wouldn't have a Facebook account. Quite the opposite, in fact.
#46PM QUESTION!
Posted: 12/11/18 at 7:26amI’m not even super worried about the mods, but given that this is literally broadwayworld.com, I would give it 10 minutes before some hacker that knows what their doing to grab all of your Facebook data, then once they have your Facebook data 5 to find out where you live
