To everyone who's like, "blah you made your account today!", I had no idea you can see when people join broadway world. Had I known, I would have joined weeks ago. I love Porgy and Bess. It is true art in these dark times.
The only dark times here are reflected by your poor shill skills. I hope the monitors delete this thread. It's a waste of cyber space. I also hope they ban the shills.
Listen, I don't take my clothes off for anyone, even if it is "artistic". - JANICE

Once you've been a member long enough Rob sends you a special pair of bull**** glasses that enable the wearer to see join dates.
Otherwise, your join date is not listed anywhere.
And I want to thank all my lovies on here for giving me my Xmas present early. This is the most awesomest thread ever. Even Mr. Sondheim would approve of the snark.
>>>"All I can think of is that that they’re jealous they can’t write music like Diane Paulus did."<<<
Wait a minute, have we just learned that Diane Paulus wrote the Gershwins' music and lyrics? Is this akin to learning that Jerry Herman didn't write "The Motherhood March"?
Okay, Blaxx, if its such a waste of cyberspace, why are you contributing to the waste by responding. And not even originally. If you're going to be a douchey hypocrite at least be a more thoughtful writer. Now, a lot of you are just as bad, but wittier responders, which doesn't exactly save you from being sorta awful. So much "you're a shill, I know you're a shill, hey, you're a shill" commentary. Why? What good does it do but drag the boards down. I know some of you live for this kind of stuff, anything to feed the negative. But come on, four pages? Really?
The OP must be connected to the show in some way. Only someone on the INSIDE would be incapable of seeing what a mess this production is from the OUTSIDE.

Because his original post was clearly and obviously a shill. Read it, then read the rest of his/her posts and tell me they are the work of the same person. I dare you.
This one was so obvious, it wasnt even funny. In fact, it wasnt wirth reading at all until the witter posts appeared and at least made it funny. And now with his/her return, under yet another name, but just as obvious because it's the same writing style... you expect us to be, what, kind towards someone whose sole purpose on this board is to make sure we chat up a production "that dances across the stage" in as glowing a way as possible?
Give me a break. If the OP (along with his/her various other noms de plume) wishes to be honest with us about his/her connections to the PR office of this piece, that's fine. But to sit there and adamantly insist there is no connection is just mind-boggling. The posts themselves betray it.
Thank you for coming to my defense everyone. Clearly there are a lot of people who were as moved by Porgy and Bess as I was. Unfortunately the dissenters are a very vocal group and seem to have gerimandered the discussion.
I saw it in Cambridge, jules. I wrote about it at length in the original thread about it. It was totally worth seeing for Audra and Norm, but the direction is abysmal, the set laughable, and many members of the ensemble appear not to have been directed at all.
From what I hear, nothing has changed, despite the usual claptrap about Paulus reworking things. Don't really know how you can rework things you've never worked.
Also, this production deserves every bit of backlash it gets. Paulus's PT Barnum huckstering is beyond the pale. That she managed to get to Audra and the cast so they were spouting her nonsense before the show opened in Cambridge is what got the whole mess into hot water to begin with. Paulus is a hack.
I have not seen the show...yet. I am seeing it this weekend. (I mean what's a jew to do on Christmas? I believe b'way and sushi and racial stereotypes is the only way!) Despite naysayers, I'm looking forward to it -- as I try to always walk into a theater with an open mind (or else why bother?)
That being said: I have to agree with those that doubt the intent of the OP (no matter how many names he/she signs in with). We've seen it too many times.
Note...there is another poster that shilled his off off b'way show here -- but he stated right up front that he was in the show and hoped some of us would come see it. See how that works? Honesty. Priceless.
Will I report in with my thoughts? You bet. Will some disagree? You bet -- no matter what my opinion. Will folks do that respectfully? No idea, but it does largely depend on how I express myself. Note: I have NEVER seen P&B, although I know the basic story line and much of the music. I'm sure that lack of preconception on what it is 'suppose' to be might work to my enjoying the show more than purists (no disrespect). We'll see!
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I can't wait to see the Sunday Times add for P&B . . . . I hope it says " . . . . an artful evening . . . . that dances across the stage . . . no direction . . . .go see it! . . . . "
