The woman IS wearing a mask, just below her nose. LuPone CLEARLY makes that point. Why are the headlines saying “anti-masker”? The woman IS wearing a mask, just not in the full compliance. I fully get LuPone’s annoyance but these headlines are posting this news as if the woman was sitting there with zero mask on and giving a full-on “Karen” rant, which she is not.
I think visiting the fury of a thousand suns on an audience member who is wearing a mask is a bit much. I like LuPone's response to the woman's defensive "I pay your salary," but I doubt the woman would have said that if she weren't being verbally assaulted and being asked "Who the f* do you think you are?"

Let's be accurate here. The f bomb wasn't in that question, it was in telling her IF the audience member can't follow the rules (which are to keep the mask over your mouth AND nose), she can get the f* out. Which, she should. You're also ignoring the context that was shared earlier in the thread that Patti was making efforts during the talkback before it got to this point to signal to the audience members that they weren't wearing their mask properly, and most likely weren't doing so for the entirety of the performance that preceded the talkback.
As for why the headlines are picking up "anti-masker" I think the audience member's shouting that they're "A PATRIOT!" says all you need to know about any and all of their positions on COVID mitigation measures.
I believe masks should be worn in theatres. So I'm not arguing that.
But to speak in anger, aggression and inappropriate language and cursing is completely uncalled for. A terrible example to set.
To me, it shows the height of celebrity and privilege that Patti can solve this problem the way she did without being reprimanded. Where is the house staff to solve this problem?
Shouting at audience members is now a Patti "shtick" as opposed to a positive way to solve a problem. And she probably knows it.
The unvaccinated should have never been allowed back in the theaters.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

So you're saying someone can't advocate for their own safety and that of the rest of her cast and the audience members sitting directly around these people just because she got heated? Wrong.
Listening to the fuller audio, Patti starts by saying, calmly but firmly enough, “Put your masks over your noses.” Using the plural “noses” implies that she’s speaking to the group in general and trying to not single the woman out, and she also is well aware that the woman may have a mask on, but is not wearing it properly, negating the effect of the mask. The woman decides to take it upon herself to retort “where are yours”, and if for some reason this woman was unaware of what happens when one crosses LuPone, she sure learned the hard way. I, for one, look forward to telling people “CHRIS HARPER PAYS MY SALARY” every chance I can.

To my ears, the woman says “I’m a patron.” This would line up with her comment about “paying your salary.”

Either way...she's still refusing to wear her mask properly and when told as much, she talked back...it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out.

The whole tirade was focused on that woman, all that intense anger, so where in the, er, monologue the F bomb was dropped is rather irrelevant.

Actually, that makes it worse. The audience member is right. No one onstage is wearing a mask. I'm sure the argument is that the actors are more than 6 feet from the audience. Guess what? That math works both ways.
The virtuous pearl clutching over Patti dropping an f bomb while advocating for MULTIPLE people's health and safety is so funny lol. Do ya'll live under a rock?

No, I live in a world where I understand the need to be vaxxed and boostered and that, if done, the mask doesn't remain a necessity. I also live in a world where you can make a point, even an urgent and serious one, without viciously lashing out at people--especially when you yourself aren't following the same protocol, but applicable even when you are.

I mean, the mask is a necessity though and is still required as of now on Broadway... The vaccine prevents YOU from getting a more serious case of the virus for the most part, but it doesn't stop the spread or transmission all that much. The viral loads are the same between vaxed and unvaxed, so both spread it similarly. By wearing the mask, you are protecting the others around you who may have been unable to get vaccinated for various reasons...

None of this matters. The rules of the theater are you are to wear a mask at all times. If you don't like the rules, then don't go.

Then you live in an alternate world than our own if you're saying a vax and boost (which prevents serious illness and death, not spread) makes masks completely unnecessary when the CDC guidelines recommend mask use in areas of moderate or high community spread (which NYC is currently categorized as) regardless of vaccination status. Masks mitigate spread. Interesting way you're taking the side of the audience member here noting Patti "herself following protocol" when...she IS in that actors on stage do not wear masks BECAUSE the audience is masked to PROTECT THE ACTORS ON STAGE WHO CANNOT WEAR A MASK AND PERFORM.
The woman IS wearing a mask. Just not properly. Broadway theatres require vaccination so this is checked PRIOR to entering the theatre so yes, this woman IS fully vaccinated AND is wearing a mask (as LuPone clearly acknowledges). The woman is wearing it with her nose exposed, which LuPone addresses. It’s interesting how many on here are going into these tangents about vaccinations and masks. The woman DID follow protocol, otherwise she would NOT be sitting in that audience. Her only crime was having her mask not covering her nose. This is what pissed LuPone off.

Wrong. The Jacobs (and all Shubert houses) no longer check vaccination status, so no. That's not correct.

I knew Patti's haters would find some way to complain about even this. The audience member agreed to wear a mask properly. The cast agreed to perform without one. Two separate standards that were previously agreed to. You are letting your admitted dislike of Lupone cloud your judgement.

Woman had a mask on. Just not covering her nose. LuPone states this clearly.
