Ok--Meryl is my pick of the three mentioned. I love Babs but--Norma? Really? I just don't see it! So here's my favorite Norma and if it were 5 years ago she would have had the voice for it--I know she doesn't so much anymore but I can dream right? Elaine Paige (which sometimes I must say I feel like I'm the last of the die hard EP fans on this board ) So here is my dream Norma--
It's been a long time since I posted a picture so I hope this works! By the way--why has Elaine's voice gone so downhill over the last few years? She's younger than Babs whose voice I think is still remarkable for her age---Why oh why did it happen to EP? Ok--done ranting!:)
Bill's thirty-two. He looks thirty-two. He looked it five years ago, he'll look it twenty years from now. I hate men. --Margo Channing

>>Glenn Close Anxious To Walk Down ‘Sunset Boulevard’
***
Refusing to speculate on who her leading man could be — Ewan McGregor and Hugh Jackman have both been rumored — Close promises one thing is certain…she’s ready to do it. “Oh, man,” she exclaimed. “So ready.”<<<
My vote has to go to Meryl. There are very few that can inhibit a role like she can. Plus, Glenn's had her chance, let's see another interpretation by a wonderful actress.
Fan2, thanks for posting that, it's exciting to read that Glenn is willing to do this, and it's also MTV which is a lot more reliable than imdb, actually, like someone else said earlier, my choice would be Glenn, she really 'gets' the role, but if Lupone, Paige, Streep, Streisand, or pretty much anyone would star in it, I'd be running to the movie theatre.

I am all for Glenn to star in this movie. I am also in favor of James Marsden as Joe. I think Hugh would be a good pick but as the years roll on it seems he is getting too old for the project.
After seeing Mamma Mia! I do not think Meryl would be the right choice at all. I felt her voice lacked richness and color.
Also the MTV link was from an article that was over a year ago. Has there been any recent updates? Updated On: 9/23/08 at 06:06 PM
As much as I LOVE me some Lupone and adore the way she sings "With One Look," she just didn't have the strength and presence that Glenn had in the role. She just looked like she was wandering around the set for most of the number. Glenn had TOTAL control of your attention throughout the show.
And the difference in the key after Glenn took over was more just the last part of the number . . . for Glenn they modulate the last part down so the song doesn't have as high a belt section at the end. I'm fairly certain the rest of the number is in the same key.
She was not mentioned in this but come on people....
Talk about perfect casting....
LIZA MINNELLI.
She is one of those who was very cute for the stage and screen so many years ago. Her voice is shot to hell (and so is she...) I love her to death and think if she had a brilliant director they could get her to do this brilliantly.
Gloria Swanson was a washed up has been when she did the part... and she is now known forever with this role. I think Liza should do it. JMHO
"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."
