Parts of the following came from the official Paris Las Vegas Press Release:
ANNOUNCEMENT: The Producers Final Performance on February 9, 2008!
The most honored show in Broadway history, the MEL BROOKS musical comedy THE PRODUCERS, at Paris Las Vegas announced today that Tony Danza will continue his run as the famous Broadway theatrical producer Max Bialystock through February 9, 2008, ending the Las Vegas engagement.
++This will apparently be the last professional production for the hit broadway musical++
The MEL BROOKS musical comedy THE PRODUCERS had its gala premiere at Paris Las Vegas on February 9, 2007. The production opened on Broadway on April 19, 2001 to unanimous rave reviews and is the recipient of the most Tony Awards in Broadway History (12, including Best Musical). Based on Mel Brooks’ Academy Award-winning 1968 film of the same name, the show tells the story of down-on-his-luck theatrical producer, Max Bialystock (Tony Danza) and Leo Bloom, a mousy accountant. Together, with the help of their flamboyant director, Roger DeBris and Ulla, the sexy Swedish blonde, they hatch the ultimate scam: raise more money than you need for a sure-fire Broadway flop and pocket the difference. Their “sure-fire” theatrical fiasco?....None other than the musical Springtime for Hitler!
I'm surprised it's lastest as long as it has. LV doesn't really seem to be a "theatre town." But, "Mamma Mia" at Mandalay Bay has been running for years.........and, it's the full length version of the show. Not a 90 minute version like TP, or like "Hairspray" was, or the current "Phantom" playing in LV.
"Jersey Boys" is opening next year in LV for an open ended run and I'm sure that will play for many, many years. That's a perfect show for LV.
I am suprised it lasted as long as it did to be honest with you.
It still amazes me as to what broadway shows in vegas will be sucessful and what would be total flops. I thought that something like Phantom over there wouldn't be successful because it is the very typical broadway musical and it wasn't something that I thought the typical vegas audience would like. I do think that with the addition of all the pyrotecnics galore and things of that nature that it got peopel wanting to go.
I still think that Spamalot is a good choice for Vegas. I am not sure about Jersey Boys and it amazes me as to how something like Mamma Mia can still be playing at full lenght there.

Wicked is at the Pantages Theatre in LA. I think that two productions of Wicked in so close proximity to each other wouldn't be smart.
"Chicago is it's own incredible theater town right there smack down in the middle of the heartland. What a great city! I can see why Oprah likes to live there!" - Dee Hoty :-D
Yeah... I'd LOVE to see Wicked in Vegas as long as they don't cut it. Which Vegas seems to always cut shows. That's one of the reasons in my opinion most Broadway shows do well off of Broadway because Vegas likes to put them at 90 mins....
Won't the tour still be going on? Because I'm seeing it on March 30th

I can understand that they want a broadway show in vegas to be 90 min. That's the typical length for the average vegas show. Weather it be a Cirque du solie or something else. I think that is a good length for vegas cus it gives you enough of a break from the casions but not too much that you wouldn't want to go back.
I do wonder why it is that there are some broadway shows that went to vegas that they had to cut and then there are others that were at full length. Correct me if I am wrong, but I know we will rock you played the Paris prior to the producers. And it did play for a while at full length and they then cut it. Same with Avenue Q.
I also recalled reading somewhere that Chicago played vegas. I do think it was full length as well. I am just wondering what are the deciding factors as to making something full length and cutting it down some.

I'm actually surprised also that it lasted that long. I never thought that The Producer's would do well there.
I remember reading something about how Phantom can't tour in LA or somewhere like that because it's too close to the Las Vegas production - it's probably the same with Wicked. Because it's open-ended in LA, it can't open in LV. It would probably do really well if it was in LV though.
I think Spamalot is a good idea for LV also - And Jersey Boys? It'll probably be like Mamma Mia and run forever.
Mamma Mia is slated to close summer of 08. A 5 year run, pretty impressive. But then again, not as good as Mystere's 13 year run; celebrating it's 14th anniversary this Christmas. But then again, Mystere isn't a broadway show plays in LV and no where else.
Which reminds me, does Mamma Mia! in Las Vegas have a special contract with California, Arizona and New Mexico? Because the touring company played a usual non-equity house here is SoCal back in 2005.
There is a claus in some of the contracts when Broadway shows open in Vegas. The claus pretty much states that the vegas production of a show will be the only one playing in the west coast. So, that means that that area is off limits for a tour.
This is why Jersey boys got all of the west coast stops of the tour out of the way first befor they opened up in vegas.
I just don't think that Mamma Mia has that clause in their deal. I know that phantom, and the others do.
if Wicked were to go to vegas then they can change the agreement. I do not think that if they go to vegas that they will close down the LA production at all. I just think that there would be two productions playing out west.

The demographics of the Vegas tourist would not support Wicked, it would be a short run. you would need a major celeb in the role of Gelinda to make it a long running show
I think it would be cool if Wicked played in a big witch hat at MGM Grand. Sorry, fangirl moment.
I am shocked that the Producers stayed open for more than three months. I think Phantom, Mamma Mia, and Spamalot are VEGAS shows. Jersey Boys should do well.

"Last professional production" is completely misleading. There are professional EQUITY productions of The Producers being done all over the country right now.
What they mean is "Last incarnation of the Broadway version, using Susan Stroman's staging and recreations of the Broadway sets and costumes".
