That's good, the triangle and the rainbows will appeal to the libido liberals.
Of course, Ad_libbing!
I shouldn't speak since I'm a straight female, but art is really only hurting any sort of gay cause by posting uninformed nonsense, and launching personal attacks on people he claims to be in support of. Way to go, art, someone out there now has an even more negative opinion of gay men because of you.
Like a firework unexploded
Wanting life but never
knowing how
Ohhh we're talking about things "biased" in the trailer and poster art.
Hmm
Well then I want a picture of a dog jumping to its death and a picture of April, dead in the tub...
I mean - if we're going to start making ridiculous claims - how come there's no scenes of any characters going to the bathroom? Are you telling me that in the course of a few days, none of these people go to the toilet?
And aren't we all just a little sick of the product placement of AZT in the show and film?! Clearly the stage production and SONY are on the take.
Oh lord...

Exactly, skittles. It's like when people tell me that my opinion on the matter is absolutely null and void because I'm a straight female, therefore making themselves look just as closed-minded as they assume me, by circumstances out of my control, to be.
Art, you have gone to a new low of of ignorance and ridiculousness.
This is harmful to your point, the attitude and manner you have taken is beyond redemption.
In addition to that
toadstool.
Em, do not let this freak get to you. Anthony simply made the mistake of being a nice guy and giving Art the benefit of the doubt. We all should stop, he has moved into a zone beyond logic, or interaction.
Tray Butler of the Washington Blade couldn't have put it better when he said that RENT is a straight man's take on queer sexuality, sexualizing the female-female but de-sexualizing the male-male. Many of you really need to understand that this differing treatment is one of the foundation pins of straight male culture. Stop pretending otherwise and stop pretending that RENT is fair and inclusive.
It seems that the "vindicated" has tucked his tail between his legs and slumped off.
No matter what I or anyone else on this board have done to show you solid proof how wrong you are...you don't listen.
You've never seen the movie...so you can't make assumptions.
You've never seen the stage show...so what the hell do you even know about RENT? Nothing.
You've probably never even heard the OBCR or film soundtrack.
You have no leg to stand on.
And do NOT attack a personal member of the cast of the movie. Anthony is an amazing actor and an outstanging individual, in general. He should be PROUD of himself. It is you who should be ashamed of yourself. You are a poor excuse for a human being.

Aside from having not experienced either the stage production OR film - you're basing your entire logic on ONE PERSON'S OPINION. Even if my own family member stated their opinion (and I trust them to the ends of the earth) I would still formulate my own and not write off anything just because one individual confirmed or denied my fears or hopes.
To use a stock metaphor - you need to diversify your portfolio. You don't base your entire "savings" on one stock.

Okay, well now it seems that art is attacking RENT in general, not just the movie. I don't think he really knows what he's trying to stand for anymore.
No, I'm referring to the movie. Keep in mind that this movie isn't a replica of the stage production - many numbers have been chopped, scenes added etc etc. It is really Columbus' and Sony's vision rather than a carbon copy. Columbus and Sony saw fit to sexualize and flesh-out the female-female but to downplay and sterilize the male-male. This is a simple fact based on independent observation. I believe I am justified in referring to it as a selectively homophobic vision. Updated On: 11/19/05 at 08:45 PM
Art is under the assumption that RENT is about homosexual love. It's not. Had it been AND it was toned down in any way, he's have an argument. But saying the show is anti-gay (or unfair and exclusive) is like saying that JAWS downplays the relationships between bottleneck dolphins and sharks.

You are characterized by your inability to think through the issues clearly. I don't know if you're a beneficiary but it sure sounds like you are.
As for the notion that RENT is about love, of course it is. But Columbus and Sony appear to have put conditions on it, with a big "back of the bus" sign placed over the gay male aspect.
You haven't seen the show or the movie. So what do you know about the show to compare to how it's being treated in the film? Nothing. You're drowning in quicksand. No one agrees with you.
It seems like you just picked this movie off a list and decided to pretend that you knew everything about it.
You have everyone against you. Die-hard fans who love the show have reported that the movie is VERY religious to the stage show. I'm included in that group.
A cast member has said you're wrong.
Even the board moderator thinks you're wrong. And how DARE you say he's a benificiary! You scum. Craig has moral principles and would never be paid off to do anything against his principles, I'm sure.

On what are you basing this on BESIDES one man's review? Please.. find us all other sources. One source does not an argument make.
And I assure you - I'm not a beneficiary of any sort. And I think you'll find that I've been nothing but purely logical about my arguments. I wish I could say the same back to you - but it's hard to take you seriously since your opinion is based on one article.
You must have really liked THREE'S COMPANY - you know - the show that every episode was based on hearsay or a misunderstanding of one opinion...

There are independent observers (eg Tray Butler of the Washington Blade) who are making the same sorts of comments as I have been since day one. Now go back to school and learn the meaning of "independent" and "objective".
