In case you didn't notice, we're trying to murder this thread, stop reviving the damned thing. You can continue your conversation, but take it somewhere else.
Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be enbered with your old nonsense. ~ Emerson
"Can you honestly say that you wouldn't do the same if it were you?"
Yes, because I don't care what ya'll bitches say about me. And my career is just fine thank you very much, and while I won't speak for DAME, I would imagine his is too. I'm not trying to give career advice, merely express an opinion. If I were to give career advice, however, I'd probably tell Rapp to lay off RENT and start working on something completely new. He's wasting his talent on merely being Larson's torchbearer. He has too much to offer to end up the Bayork Lee of RENT.
MB why dont you just leave the subject alone..we know you didnt like the movie but to bash somebody's career and say the things that you have said about Anthony is taking it too far. Grow up and worry about yourself.
Yes he is. There is nothing wrong with Anthony still working with Rent and "carrying Jonathon Larsons torch" If he wants to more power to him. It is HIS choice and this is what means the most to him so he will keep doing it until he wants to stop!
ok i am sorry if i offended anyone or if i was being rude those werent my intentions...i just think it is rude to talk badly about somebody...especially their work..
I know some of you want this thread to die, but I don't care. I deserve a chance to voice my opinion. Here goes...Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion. Some liked the film, some didn't. Oh, well. There are lots of movies I don't like. Just because you didn't like RENT, doesn't mean that people who liked or loved the movie are delusional. I didn't like Lord of th Rings, does that make all LOTR fans delusional just because they don't agree with my opinion of the movie? No. You cannot expect people to respect your opinion while denouncing opinions you don't agree with. That's rather hypocritical. It's basically saying "I hated the movie and you need to respect that, but you're stupid for liking it". I personally loved the movie. I thought they did a wonderful job. Of course there are little things I would change, but that is the same with every movie. I feel that the performances that were given were worthy of accolades, and I am dissappionted by the GG snub. The film was touching and beautiful, and thoroughly enjoyable. I've seen the film seven times, and I love it more each time I see it. I have also taken several people to see it who were not familliar with the music or the story, and they all loved it. Many of them saw it a second time. I'm very happy that this film was made and that we now have these incredible performances on "tape" forever. I also think it's ridiculous to assume that people who say they loved the film on BWW are just ass kissers. My opinions are in no way influenced by the knowledge that Anthony posts on these boards. If I had not liked the movie, I would say so. It presupmtious to assume that people would voice false opinions just because someone involed might read them. I think it's great that Anthony takes the time to post on these boards. He also has a right to defend himself and his work. We hall have a right to do that. Just because he's more famous than the rest of us doens't mean he should sit back and let people bash him and his work. He has never been disrespectful or rude. I wish I could say the same about the people doing the bashing. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I don't go around telling everyone who didn't like RENT that they are delusional. you didn't like the movie, that's too bad. It doens't change my opinion of the movie. It doesn't make my opinion any less valid. We're not all going to agree on everything, but can we agree to stop being so rude and disrespectful to one another?
I am not trying to make anybody mad here I just think he is a person just like the rest of us...he just happens to have a fan base and support..I don't believe that he is living off of RENT he has been doing independent films and such and he was given the opportunity to do the movie and took it. Who wouldn't?
I have never said that fans of the show are delusional for liking it. I did say, and continue to think, however, that there was/is a certain permeating delusion about the perception of the film's success.
Anthony said he was shocked that the film received such a critical drumming because of the (now obviously overkind) reaction the film received at advance screenings, but ignored the many posts from BWW members who said that WOM in Hollywood was contrary - as did a lot of the RENT fans on this board, who were positive the film would be an enormous critical and financial success.
The entire debate started when fans questioned how anyone could "gloat" about RENT's failure at the Golden Globes. That was my simple response.
Wait wait wait Anthony hasnt pursued anything other than Rent?
