this is where I'm a little confused....AOL Entertainment News (Reuter) is reporting that Rent got three nominations...one for best Ensemble Acting, one for Best Soundtrack, and one for Best Song with Seasons of Love....yet the Website Link posted in the other thread says there were no nominations....

The film, while enjoyable, really isn't the kind of stuff awards are made of. I think some awards shows get confused about nominating people for lip-syncing for 2+hours. Not that there isn't value, or craft in that process, but musicals, especially one's that are sung through, will always have a tough go. Truth is, that film is mega confusing for people not familiar with the story. I think at times, the director assumed his audience was full of devoted fans, where in reality, a majority of America hasn't heard of or isn't totally familiar with Rent.

Whatever AOL is reporting is probably from the awards in the link I provided.
I don't know if it award-worthy. I don't really care if I don't know, because that only means I'm not objective, which I certainly could've told you months ago. I do care that this lack of success is making people *happy* and I'm sorry that some people don't realize what this potential failure means in the grand scheme, if movie musicals are so important.

None of Rent's songs will be eligible for Globes or Oscars, because they weren't written directly for the film.

Oh, snap. The thread title has been updated as a slam against the *actors*.

I hope my comment didn't make you think I was happy about the whole thing Em. Hardly. I just think that quality should be rewarded, and I just didn't think the quality of the Rent film was high enough to garner nominations or wins.
For me, the Rent film was enjoyable on a personal level. Having loved it when I was just turning 18, when it just came out and was fresh and new. My eyes were opened when I went with my boyfriend and he didn't have much of a clue what was going on because he didn't know the material top to bottom.

People should be very, very sad that the movie was not good enough to get even a single Golden Globe nomination. It's a sign of how disappointingly bad it is. Bye!

Go kick a small puppy BwayStar, and it will have the same effect you're tryting to create on these boards.

No, I didn't mean you, Bobby.
Too bad "bye" doesn't mean what it should.

I think Bye means: "Wait 5 minutes and I'll post something else intended to make people feel like crap."

it might also mean, "I'll join under another name, let me think I know, tralala and then I can carry on posting."
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

Yes, the fact that the Hollywood Foreign Press didn't award RENT means that the film will bomb in Europe and end up bankrupting Sony. Because of that studios are canceling the announced film versions of DREAMGIRLS, SWEENEY and CATS, but they are going ahead with the movie of IN MY LIFE, but they are cutting all the songs and using them as background music. Johnny Depp will play Winston and I hear Dakota Fanning is up for Boever's role.

The twist at the end of your post merits 4 stars out of 6, MB. I loved it.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

Ha!
Poor RENT movie, but alas... I didn't exactly expect much by way of awards. Either way, I enjoy it as it is.

I won't lie, i didn't think the movie was that great.... Sad that Rosario didn't get a nod because i think she was the saving grace to the film, but that is just my opinion.

How is someone who has been here since June of 03 still a chorus member?
I literally post that much in my sleep. Although the posts are nearly as likely to anger people as his.
(No offense to any other slow posters, this is just for 'BwayStar's' enjoyment.)

Well, the fact is that some people never make it out of the chorus.

Has anyone else noticed that Bwaystar joined on 6/12/03 and is only a chorus member?
Just checking!
