Bring it On...... Really, Hands on a Hardbody deserved that slot
I'm thrilled for GOLDEN BOY, for not getting lost in the shuffle...8 nominations is certainly nothing to shrug at. Would have loved to have seen Seth Numrich make the cut, though!
Also, surprised Charl Brown got nominated for MOTOWN over the Michael Jackson boys. The Tonys really gave the kids the cold shoulder this year...

I am CRACKING UP at these dropped phone calls on NY1.
A little bummed about Jim Norton and Alan Cumming being overlooked, but overall pretty pleased with the nominations. I guess I need to see Kinky Boots now. I'm just pleased that something got more noms than Matilda.

I saw Kinky Boots -- I liked it but I would not run to see it.
And Billy Porter was excellent, although he messed up badly on a line when I saw him -- that was excruciatingly painful to witness.

Thrilled that Rob McClure was nominated. Too bad he doesn't have a shot at winning.

So it's come to this: all four nominees for Best Musical are (at least partially) based on films. I know Matilda is 'based on the novel' but there still is a pre-existing movie, and people do associate the two.
cant complain, except im sorry Jessica Chastain and Yvonne Strahovski were overlooked. both were mesmerizing and both made me cry.
Bring it on! Yay!!!! proof it wasnt just a HS show
On the one hand, it's surprising to me that Kinky Boots has 13 nominations. On the other hand, it wasn't a very strong year. I did think it was a thoroughly mediocre show, but...this year that's enough!
I'm crying listening to Cyndi Lauper crying.
She's just the best! Really glad for her and for the show!

Other than my disappointment with Jim Norton being overlooked, these noms seem to be pretty rational (for the TONYs).
I actually thought the lyrics in Kinky Boots were awful. Except for one song (the one sung by Annaleigh Ashford), I was embarrassed for Lauper. All of the rhymes were so obvious that I guessed most of them before I heard them.
Not as bad as Kathie Lee's Scandalous lyrics, though. Wow.
Orphans for Best Revival is the one nomination that I just think is completely insane. I'd have given that spot to Picnic. Or...anything else.
Biggest disappointment for me is that both Jesse Mueller and Andy Karl.... IMO the best performances in DROOD...were not nominated.
Yay for the nominations for "Vanya-Sonya-Masha & Spike". Shalita Grant and Billy Magnussen have such enthusiasm for their play, in all those promotional videos they've made. I'm looking forward to being in NYC during the Tonys weekend. Yay. from RC in Austin, Texas...back to work.

Would have been great to see John Bolton's delightful performance in A CHRISTMAS STORY recognized, but I guess the slate was just too crowded.
Surprised at BRING IT ON's inclusion--I thought either CHAPLIN or HANDS ON A HARDBODY would snag the wild card. Well, at least it wasn't MOTOWN.
Also surprised THE TESTAMENT OF MARY got the nod over THE NANCE.
But overall, pretty good selections.

This is a great list. But I'm pretty bummed not to see Seth Numrich's name in Best Actor. He carried Golden Boy and gave one of the most powerful performances of the season IMO.
congrats to all the great nominees today!
I'm not ranting-I LOVE THE NOMINATIONS!! Go Kinky Boots and Pippin!!!! Woo hoo!!!
What is the deal with Cinderella?
How can it be a revival if it's never been on Broadway before, and the book has been substantially re-written to the point that it does not resemble its original story?

I am thrilled for Kinky Boots..but very sad for Anthony Warlow. The subtle fabulous performances usually get overlooked.

So... Posner got three out of four nominations. And he'll lose them all? Crazy town!
Don't have many gripes about this, except for the shunning of Alan Cumming and Lilla Crawford. The Crawford thing bothers me mostly because they are awarding the MATILDA girls just because they can.
Not one fncking nomination for Macbeth?
I'm proud to say that I called those orchestration nominations in an earlier thread.
My only other reactions - a nomination for Best Musical for Bring It On, a cute piece of middling fluff?? And - nyah, nyah, nyah to Jeckyll & Hyde.
